Abstract

A friction-reducing crystalline carbon coating is provided on at least some of the moving parts subjected to frictional contact in a guide, drive, pump or valve device. A guide device for use in a nuclear installation comprises at least a guide body (23a, 23b) with a surface designed to come into at least partial contact with a power transmission device (10) movable relative to the guide device. The surface is provided with a friction-reducing coating of crystalline carbon. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a drive device for at least one control rod in a nuclear installation, comprising an elongated guide tube (4) inside a drive tool housing at least partly surrounded by an elongated transmission screw, and a drive tool nut (14) associated with the tube, at least one of the screw or nut having a crystalline carbon coating; (b) a pump for use in a nuclear installation, comprising a casing at least partially surrounding a drive device with moving parts and an axle opening for connecting the drive device to a pump body via a shaft, at least one of the axle guide device (e.g. sliding seal, sliding guide, packing box, slide bearing or rotary bearing) having a crystalline carbon coating; (c) a valve device for use in a nuclear installation, comprising a casing at least partially surrounding a valve body with at least one bearing surface and/or seal surface, at least one of these surfaces being coated with crystalline carbon; and (d) nuclear installations containing these drive, pump or valve devices.
