Claims (17)

A method of deforming a wood-fiber board preform to produce shaped articles in a mold cavity on a press comprising at least an upper half mold and a lower half mold, wherein at least one of the upper half mold and the lower half mold is arranged to move toward the other from the first open position for receiving the workpiece in the second closed position, which defines the cavity of the mold, including:
heating the preform to a softening temperature such that the preform material becomes plastically deformable;
equipping the mold cavity in the closed position with at least one constriction adapted to limit the extrudable side stream of the softened workpiece material, the constriction being located to prevent the appearance of defects in the shaped product;
heating at least one half-mold from a set of upper and lower half-molds;
compressing the preform in the cavity of the mold during a pressing cycle containing at least one period of gradual progressive deformation, followed by at least one period of standing, when heated without opening the cavity of the mold.

in which at least one of the upper half mold and the lower half mold is adapted for heating and in which the device is adapted to compress the workpiece in the cavity of the mold during the pressing cycle, comprising at least one period of successive gradual deformation, followed by at least one the period of dwell when heated without opening the cavity of the mold.
