Ловушка для мелких животных содержит тонкостенный продолговатый открытый с одного торца корпус 1 о центральной опорой 2 или изгибом опорной поверхности, обеспечивающими корпусу возможность качаться, и шарнирно закрепленный у его входного отверстия вверху падающий затвор 3 со стойкой 4. При продвижении привлеченного запахом приманки животного внутрь ловушки вес животного заставляет ловушку качнуться из настороженного положения с поднятым падающим затвором, опирающимся на стойки, в закрытое положение с упавшим падающим затвором. В закрытом положении ловушки падающий затвор запирается уступами или выступами 5. выполненными на нижней и (или) боковой стенках корпуса, причем при попытке самостоятельного выхода из ловушки животное собственным весом запирает падающий затвор, воздействуя на его стойки.
