Abstract

FIELD: medicine and pharmaceutical industries, house hold chemistry. SUBSTANCE: method is carried out by solution-precipitate polymerization of acryl acid (its quantity being 5-25 mass %) in inert solvent. The process takes place in the presence of initiator of polymerization (its quantity being 0.01-2.5 %) and cross-linking agent (its quantity being 0.01-0.5 %). Polymerization takes place at temperature being by 3-10 C higher than boiling point of inert solvent. Desired product is isolated by filtration followed by drying. Quantity of residual monomer is not more 0.13 mass %. EFFECT: decreases content of residual monomer, increases thickening ability of desired polymer.

Claims (1)

The invention relates to the production of crosslinked polymers of acrylic acid used to thicken aqueous media with the formation of highly viscous transparent gels used in the medical, pharmaceutical, perfumery and cosmetic industries and household chemicals. The invention solves the problem of reducing the content of residual monomer in the polymer while increasing its thickening ability. The method consists in solution-precipitation polymerization of 5 - 25 wt.% Acrylic acid in an inert solvent in the presence of 0.01 - 2.5 wt.% Initiator of free radical polymerization and 0.01 - 0.5 wt.% Crosslinking agent. The polymerization is carried out at a temperature of 3 - 10 ° C above the boiling point of an inert solvent. The target product is isolated by filtration, followed by drying. The content of residual monomer in the polymer does not exceed 0.13 wt.%, The viscosity of 0.1% aqueous alkaline gel is 900 - 1300 cps.
