Abstract

FIELD: treatment of phosphate coatings. SUBSTANCE: bath for treatment of phosphate surface containing organic polymer compound (or its salt) which includes, at least, one cationic atom of nitrogen and has molecular weight within 1000 to 1000000, forming on metal (for instance, zinc, aluminum, etc) surfaces a film possessing high corrosion resistance and also serves as the base for paint. Preferably, film has resin formed by the cationic or organic compound (or its salt) and penetrates into granules between phosphate crystals with concurrent formation of composite from crystals of phosphate and resin. Film formed in compliance with the present invention provides for considerable increase of corrosion resistance and cohesion with paint as compared with phosphate conversion effected by the same method, except that organic polymeric including cationic nitrogen is absent. Besides, even in case of exclusion of operation of application of base, the present invention allows obtaining the service characteristics, approximately, equalling that attained in application of base to common phosphate films. EFFECT: higher quality.

Claims (1)

A phosphate surface treatment bath containing a cationic organic polymer compound (or salt thereof) that includes at least 1 cationic nitrogen atom and has a molecular weight in the range of 1,000 to 1,000,000 forming on metal surfaces (e.g., iron, zinc, aluminum and etc.) a film with high corrosion resistance, which is also an excellent base for coloring. Preferably, the film is one in which the resin formed by the cationic organic compound (or its salt) penetrates the grain boundaries between the phosphate crystals while simultaneously forming a composite of the phosphate crystals and the resin. The film formed in accordance with the invention provides a significant increase in corrosion resistance and adhesion to the paint compared to phosphate conversion carried out in the same way, except for the absence of an organic polymer including cationic nitrogen. In addition, even with the exception of the operation of applying the soil, the invention allows to obtain operational characteristics approximately equal to those achieved when applying the soil to conventional phosphate films.
