Сущность изобретения: в способе осветления живичной канифоли путем нагревания исходного продукта с серусодержащим алкилфенолформальдегидным соединением нагревание осуществляют в присутствии фосфорной кислоты при соотношении серусодержащего соединения к фосфорной кислоте от 1 : 0,01 до 1 : 0,1. При этом нагревание исходной композиции осуществляют до 185 - 210oС, а в состав исходной композиции может быть введен модифицирующий агент, такой, как глицерин, диэтиленгликоль или фумаровая кислота.
