The method relates to the field of storage of spent nuclear fuel, in particular, to the storage technology of fuel assemblies with sealed shells of fuel elements in in-reactor basins, and can be used both at operating NPPs and when designing new NPPs. The inventive method of storing spent nuclear fuel with its placement in canisters installed in pools with treated and cooled water, provides for the installation of spent nuclear fuel with a hermetic shell in canisters, the internal cavity of which is communicated with the pool water below its level water pool clean and cool water canisters. Additionally, it is proposed to periodically change the water level in the pool. Using the method allows to increase the reliability and safety of SNF storage; prevent depressurization of TVEL during storage; reduce the complexity of SNF storage technology; reduce metal consumption of canisters; reduce the level of ionizing effects on personnel; improve overall environmental safety at nuclear power plants; reduce the total amount of liquid evaporating from the canisters.
