Устройство используется для обнаружения в природе светоносного эфира и определения скорости перемещения в нем материальных объектов. До настоящего времени не был проведен эксперимент, достоверно устанавливающий наличие или отсутствие в природе эфира - в основном из - за возможности интерпретировать результаты всех ранее проведенных опытов как с позиций эфирной концепции, так и теории относительности. Предлагаемое устройство, предназначенное для измерения бокового сноса возможным эфирным ветром электромагнитных сигналов, направляемых к приемнику различными путями под некоторыми углами к скорости эфирного ветра, позволяет исключить интерпретацию результатов измерения с позиций теории относительности как при наличии в природе эфира, так и при его отсутствии.
