Устройство относится к системам, в которых используется отраженное электромагнитное излучение в видимой области спектра, и может быть применено в устройствах для обнаружения обледенения летательного аппарата. Устройство содержит источник света, излучение которого в форме пучка ориентировано в направлении стекла кабины, и снабжено оптическим элементом, расположенным на внешней поверхности стекла и перекрывающим часть поверхности этого стекла, засвечиваемой излучением источника света. При помощи оптического элемента имитируется образование льда на внешней поверхности стекла. При этом обеспечивается возможность сравнительной визуальной оценки состояния внешней поверхности стекла, открытой атмосферным воздействиям.
