Application: technical physics, determination of the optical characteristics of transparent objects, for example, the distribution of the refractive index. The goal is to ensure the dependence of the polarization characteristics of the light wave on the difference in the refractive indices of the reference and studied objects. A linearly polarized coherent wave from the source is passed through the reference object. A hologram of this wave is recorded on a photographic plate using the first reference wave formed by the mirror, and the other reference wave is blocked by a screen. Then, instead of the reference, the investigated object is installed. Using the plate, the plane of polarization of the object and second reference waves is rotated 90 ° , the first reference wave is blocked by the screen, and the second hologram is recorded on the same photographic plate. The holograms are restored by two reference waves whose polarization planes are mutually perpendicular. The restored waves are passed through the plate, as a result of which they become circularly polarized with the opposite direction of rotation of the electric vector. The obtained intensity distribution is recorded using a recording system, the magnitude and direction of the angle of rotation of the plane of oscillations of the resulting reconstructed wave are measured, which determine the optical characteristics of the investigated transparent object.
