Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of processing materials with a laser beam and surface modification during laser surfacing of alloying compositions and can be used to form an alloy layer with high hardness and wear resistance on the surface of products made of titanium or titanium-based alloys.
The prior art knows a method for producing compact materials containing titanium diboride using the method of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis, including the preparation of a reaction mixture from powdered components in the form of ferrotitanium and ferroboron, followed by compaction and initiation of the SHS process (RF Patent No. 2658566 C2, IPC C22C 29/14, B22F 3/23. 06/21/2018. This method involves the production of compact materials with titanium diboride by heating a mixture of components, while the method does not allow the formation of alloyed layers containing boride components on the surface of titanium or alloys based on it.
The state of the art knows methods for forming wear-resistant layers on the surface of parts made of titanium or titanium alloy using electric spark alloying. These methods include applying a layer of powdered graphite to the surface of workpieces made of titanium or titanium alloy using the friction spreading method (Boytsov A.G. et al. Hardening the surfaces of parts using combined methods. M.: Mashinostroenie, 1991) and carbon-based material in the form of paint or pastes (RF Patent No. 2621750 C2, MPK V23N 9/00, V23N 1/00, V23N 1/06. 06/07/2017. Bulletin No. 7) with subsequent electric spark surface treatment. The disadvantage of these methods is the restrictions on regulating the composition of the alloy layer, which contains carbide and nitride components of titanium after processing.
The prior art knows a method for obtaining a nanostructured surface of steels using laser-plasma processing, which includes placing the part in a sealed chamber, filling the chamber volume with an inert gas or a modifier gas, followed by exposure of the processed surface of the parts to a laser beam (RF Patent No. 2447012 C1. MPK V82V 3 /00, S23S 4/12, V23K 26/34, C21D 04/10/2012 Bulletin. This method involves processing the material using special equipment, in particular, a sealed chamber, gas supply systems and movement of the workpiece, which leads to the complication of its technical implementation.
№22). Данный способ применим для азотирования и/или цементации поверхности чугунов и сталей, для легирования чистыми металлами или сплавами с формированием пересыщенных твердых растворов и образованием интерметаллидов, для легирования карбидами тугоплавких металлов (TiC, VC, ТаС, WC и др).The closest in technical essence is a method for modifying metal surfaces and a device that includes placing the workpiece in a reaction chamber, forming a flow of working gas containing a carrier gas and chemically active reagents and/or alloying additives, followed by directing the flow onto the modified surface and exposing it to laser pulses. periodic radiation (RF Patent No. 2425907 C2. IPC S23S 4/12, S23S 16/48, S23S 16/513. 08/10/2011. Bulletin No. 22). This method is applicable for nitriding and/or carburization of the surface of cast irons and steels, for alloying with pure metals or alloys with the formation of supersaturated solid solutions and the formation of intermetallic compounds, for alloying with carbides of refractory metals (TiC, VC, TaC, WC, etc.).
The disadvantage of the prototype is the limited scope of application associated with the need to use complex equipment for modification, including a reaction chamber, gas flow supply systems, preparation and formation of the working gas flow. Also in this method, the use of chemically active gases (nitrogen, ammonia, propane, etc.) or chemically active reagents in the form of vapors or aerosols is provided as alloying components. This reduces the scope of application of this method and complicates the technological process of surface treatment of metal materials.
All this reduces the versatility and technical applicability of the prototype.
The proposed method is more technically applicable and universal for the formation of an alloyed layer on the surface of parts made of titanium or titanium-based alloys.
The increased versatility and technical applicability of the proposed method is expressed in the fact that it allows the process of alloying the surface of titanium or titanium-based alloys using laser radiation without the use of complex equipment and chemically active alloying media in the form of gas components.
The method is carried out as follows.
First, a reaction mixture is prepared by mixing, consisting of powdered components in the form of chromium or ferrochrome and boron, and the ratio of the mass of chromium to the mass of boron in this mixture ranges from 0.5 to 10. The resulting mixture is applied to the surface of products made of titanium or alloys based on it, followed by exposure of this area to laser radiation. Depending on the shape and geometry of the parts, the method involves applying the reaction mixture both in the form of powders and using an adhesive binder. In the case of processing parts in a horizontal plane, the method allows the application of the reaction mixture to the surface in the form of powders without a binder. The thickness of the layer of the powder mixture can be varied both by the dispersion of the mixture components and by using special available devices (conductors in the form of plates with a slot of the required height, etc.). For better fixation of the reaction mixture, especially with a complex surface topography of the workpiece, the method allows the use of an adhesive binder - the introduction of a binder to the initial reaction mixture and its subsequent application to the surface in the form of paint or paste, or the application of an adhesive binder to the surface of the workpiece with subsequent sprinkling of the above area powdery reaction mixture. After applying the reaction mixture to the surface of the product, laser treatment is carried out. Depending on the required technical result, the method allows for treatment either with a single exposure to laser radiation at a point on the surface, or multiple times. The choice of the number of pulses per point on the surface being treated and the processing modes depend both on the composition of the reaction mixture, the thickness of the layer, and on the technical characteristics of the laser device used for the impact. To ensure the most optimal processing conditions, the method allows the use of powdered components of the reaction mixture in a fraction not exceeding 1 mm, since the use of larger components of the reaction mixture will not allow obtaining a high-quality and uniform layer on the surface of the processed product. In order to obtain an alloyed layer combining boride components and the base metal, the method provides for processing without overlapping the zones of point laser irradiation with each other, and the interval between them can be up to 2 diameters of the laser irradiation spot. To form predominantly boride components in the doped layer, the method allows for surface treatment with overlapping point laser irradiation zones, and the contact area must be at least 5% of the laser irradiation spot area, since a smaller contact area will not lead to complete surface treatment.
In order to regulate the amount of boride components in the alloyed layer, the method involves producing a reaction mixture of chromium or ferrochrome and boron with a chromium to boron mass ratio of 0.5 to 10. A ratio of 0.5 causes an excess boron content in the reaction mixture, which during processing laser exposure leads to the formation of predominantly chromium and titanium borides in the alloyed region. The mass ratio of chromium to boron in the reaction mixture, equal to 10, corresponds to an excess amount of chromium, which, during processing, along with chromium and titanium borides, makes it possible to obtain intermetallic components of the titanium - chromium system in the alloyed layer.
The method allows the use of chromium or ferrochrome, including carbon, as chromium-containing components in the reaction mixture. The use of ferrochrome in the reaction mixture leads to the formation during processing of additional components containing iron, and in the manufacture of the reaction mixture of carbon ferrochrome allows the formation, along with the boride components of titanium and chromium, also of their carbides. The method involves the use of amorphous or crystalline boron as boron-containing components of the reaction mixture. These materials differ in their reactivity, which makes it possible to regulate the composition of the doped layer during laser processing.
Laser exposure to the surface of titanium or alloys based on it with an applied layer of the reaction mixture causes local heating due to both high radiation energy and due to the occurrence of processes of formation of chromium and titanium borides during interaction in the system of the processed material - reaction mixture. Considering the high activity of titanium to the components of the air atmosphere, in particular to nitrogen and oxygen, the method allows the supply of inert gases in the form of argon or helium to the processing zone. These gases prevent the processes of oxidation and nitride formation of titanium or alloys based on it. For a simpler technical implementation, the method provides for the supply of inert gases by blowing the treated area without the use of special chambers.
To expand the scope of application of this method, it provides for the additional introduction to the reaction mixture consisting of chromium or ferrochrome and boron, powdered additives of aluminum or nickel or alloys based on them or their combinations in an amount of at least 5% wt. from the initial mixture of chromium or ferrochrome with boron.
The method is carried out as follows.
To the reaction mixture consisting of chromium or ferrochrome and boron, taken in a ratio of the mass of chromium to the mass of boron from 0.5 to 10, powdered metals of nickel or aluminum or alloys based on them or their combinations are additionally added in an amount of at least 5% wt. from the initial mixture of chromium or ferrochrome with boron. It is known that titanium is capable of forming stable and stable intermetallic compounds with both aluminum and nickel. The introduction of these components into the initial reaction mixture makes it possible to obtain, in the process of surface treatment by laser action, not only chromium and titanium borides, but also intermetallic compounds of the titanium - aluminum or titanium - nickel system. The formation of intermetallic compounds of the nickel-aluminum system is also known. This allows additional intermetallic compounds of this system to be formed in the alloyed layer when nickel and aluminum are added to the initial reaction mixture of chromium or ferrochrome and boron, and the formation of intermetallic compounds of the nickel - aluminum system is determined by the ratio of these components. During laser exposure, together with the boride components of titanium and chromium, the formation of intermetallic compounds also leads to a change in the composition, structure and properties of the alloyed layer on the surface of products made of titanium or alloys based on it. The use of alloys based on aluminum and nickel as additives to the reaction mixture of chromium or ferrochrome and boron, or a combination thereof, also makes it possible to obtain intermetallic compounds in the alloyed surface along with borides. The amount of additions of aluminum or nickel or alloys based on them or their combinations to the reaction mixture is at least 5% by weight of the mixture of chromium or ferrochrome and boron. A smaller amount of additives does not allow the composition and properties of the alloyed layer to be varied over a wide range due to the insignificant amount of phases formed during processing with the participation of additive components.
To regulate the amount of boride components in the alloyed layer, the method involves producing a reaction mixture of chromium or ferrochrome and boron with a chromium to boron mass ratio of 0.5 to 10. A ratio of 0.5 causes an excess boron content in the reaction mixture, which during laser treatment exposure leads to the formation of predominantly chromium and titanium borides in the alloyed area.
Additional introduction to the mentioned mixture allows the formation in the alloyed layer of intermetallic compounds of the titanium - aluminum, titanium - nickel system and, with the joint introduction of aluminum and nickel, intermetallic compounds of the nickel - aluminum system.
The prepared mixture is applied to the surface of products made of titanium or alloys based on it, followed by exposure of this area to laser radiation. Depending on the shape and geometry of the parts, the method involves applying the reaction mixture both in the form of powders and using an adhesive binder. In the case of processing parts in a horizontal plane, the method allows for the application of the reaction mixture to the surface in the form of powders without a binder. In order to obtain an alloyed layer combining boride and intermetallic components with the base metal, the method provides for processing without overlapping the zones of point laser irradiation with each other, and the interval between them can be up to 2 diameters of the laser irradiation spot. To form predominantly boride and intermetallic components in the alloyed layer, the method allows for surface treatment with overlapping point laser irradiation zones, and the contact area must be at least 5% of the laser irradiation spot area, since a smaller contact area will not lead to complete surface treatment.
Laser exposure to the surface of titanium or titanium-based alloys with an applied layer of the reaction mixture causes local heating due to both high radiation energy and due to the formation of chromium, titanium borides and intermetallic compounds of the nickel-titanium, aluminum-titanium, nickel-aluminum systems at interaction in the system of the processed material - the reaction mixture. Considering the high activity of both titanium and the components of the reaction mixture, especially aluminum, to the components of the air atmosphere, in particular to nitrogen and oxygen, the method allows the supply of inert gases in the form of argon or helium to the processing zone. These gases prevent the processes of nitride formation of titanium or alloys based on it and the oxidation of the components of the reaction mixture and the metal base of the material being processed. For a simpler technical implementation, the method provides for the supply of inert gases by blowing the treated area without the use of special chambers.
After applying the reaction alloying mixture, the surface of products made of titanium or titanium-based alloys is treated with laser action. Depending on the technical equipment, both gas and solid-state laser systems can be used as a source of laser radiation. To automate the surface alloying process, devices for moving the workpiece or laser radiation source using coordinate machines can be used.
For the practical implementation of the proposed method, a pulsed welding laser LIS 25/2 with the following main characteristics was used as a source of laser radiation: laser radiation wavelength 1.06 μm; maximum pulse energy, not less than 30 J; maximum average power, not less than 75 W; pulse repetition frequency from 1 to 30 Hz; pulse duration from 0.1 to 20 ms; pulse energy control range from 11 to 800 J; light spot diameter from 0.25 to 2.0 mm.
Examples of specific execution:
Example 1. A mixture of chromium and boron was used as an alloying reaction mixture with a chromium to boron weight ratio of 10 (0.1 g of amorphous boron was added per 1 g of chromium). A plate made of titanium alloy VT1-0 was used as a sample. The sample was placed on the work table of a three-axis machine, the powder mixture was applied in a layer up to 0.2 mm thick, and laser treatment was carried out using a LIS 25/2 installation. The processing mode and sample movement speed were selected from preliminary experiments, which made it possible to obtain titanium (TiB) and chromium (CrB) borides on the treated surface of the titanium alloy. This composition of the reaction mixture has an insignificant boron content, so part of the chromium during processing formed solid solutions with a titanium base.
Example 2. The same as in example 1, only a mixture of chromium and amorphous boron was used as a dopant reaction mixture with a chromium to boron mass ratio of 1. After treatment with laser radiation, the alloyed layer contained titanium borides (TiB, TiB 2 ), chromium (CrB 2 ) and titanium oxide (TiO 2 ). The formation of borides is a consequence of the interaction of the components of the reaction mixture with each other and the base metal, and the oxide is formed due to the partial oxidation of titanium during processing.
Example 3. The same as in example 2, only to prevent oxidation during laser exposure, inert gas argon was supplied to the treatment zone using the blowing method. To better fix the reaction mixture, an adhesive binder based on BF glue was applied to the surface of the sample, followed by sprinkling the surface with a powdered alloying composition. After processing, the alloyed layer contained borides of titanium (TiB, TiB 2 ) and chromium (CrB 2 ). Comparative tests of the alloyed layer against abrasive wear during abrasion of materials on P80 electrocorundum sandpaper showed an increase in the wear resistance of the treated sample by 10-12 times compared to the base metal.
(CrB2).Example 4. A mixture of chromium and crystalline boron was used as a reaction alloying mixture with a chromium to boron weight ratio of 0.5. Before applying the alloying composition, an adhesive binder was applied to the surface, followed by sprinkling with the reaction mixture. After leveling the thickness of the powder mixture to 0.2 mm, the surface was treated by laser irradiation with blowing the sample with an inert gas argon. The alloyed layer on the surface of the VT1-0 titanium alloy after treatment contained boride components of titanium (TiB, TiB 2 ) and chromium (CrB 2 ).
Al3Ti.Example 5. The same as in example 3, only aluminum powder was added to the initial reaction mixture of chromium and boron in an amount of 20 wt%. The alloyed layer obtained after processing, along with titanium and chromium borides, contained the Al 3 Ti intermetallic compound.
NiTi Ni3Ti.Example 6. The same as in example 3, only nickel powder was added to the initial reaction mixture of chromium and boron in an amount of 30 wt%. The alloyed layer obtained after processing, along with titanium and chromium borides, contained intermetallic compounds NiTi Ni 3 Ti.
6).Example 7. As a reaction mixture, we used a mixture of carbon ferrochrome FKh800 and boron, taken at a ratio of the mass of chromium to the mass of boron equal to 1. After preparing the powder mixture, an adhesive binder was added to it (in an amount of ~ 10% by weight) and the resulting paste was applied to surface of a sample made of VT1-0 alloy. During laser treatment, argon was supplied to the treatment zone using the blowing method. The resulting alloyed layer, along with titanium and chromium borides, also contained carbide components of titanium (TiC) and chromium ((Cr, Fe) 7 C 3 (Cr, Te) 23 C 6 ).
The experimental results show that the proposed method is practically applicable and allows the formation of boride components of titanium and chromium in an alloyed layer on the surface of products made of titanium or titanium-based alloys during laser processing.
