Abstract
Description
The invention relates to methods for obtaining protective superhydrophobic coatings on products and structures made of magnesium alloys, which have anti-icing properties and retain them for a long time. The method can be used in the processing of structural materials for mechanical engineering, automotive, aviation, electrical, radio engineering and other industries. Magnesium alloys are characterized by low specific gravity and high strength, as well as ease of machining. They are promising structural materials, however, the practical use of magnesium alloys is significantly limited by their low resistance to corrosion, which is especially evident in the operation of products and structures made from them at sub-zero temperatures due to ice-frost deposits.
Relevant is the development of methods designed to protect the surface of products and structures made of magnesium alloys by applying hydrophobic and superhydrophobic coatings that limit the contact of the said surface with a corrosive environment, while it is necessary to take into account the accumulation of a charge of static electricity under operating conditions that adversely affects the hydrophobic properties of the coating, and take measures to prevent the deterioration of its protective properties.
Known (CN No. 102817063, publ. 2012.12.12) a method of applying a superhydrophobic corrosion-resistant coating to the surface of a magnesium alloy, which reduces the corrosion current in a NaCl solution (3%) by three orders of magnitude, the absence of corrosion after 96 hours of exposure to salt fog, which detects the contact angle up to 169.2°. The method includes the formation of a ceramic-like layer with anti-corrosion properties by plasma-electrolytic oxidation (PEO) in an electrolyte containing sodium molybdate, sodium hydroxide, sodium or potassium dichromate, triethanolamine, polyethylene glycol, at a voltage of 70-160 V, on which a superhydrophobic polymer film is applied, obtained using electrodeposition from an organic composition containing a derivative of triazine and mercaptan with fluorine-substituted groups. However, the mechanical properties of the coating obtained by a known method do not provide the possibility of its operation under conditions that impose stringent requirements on the adhesion of the coating, its strength properties, and resistance to abrasive wear. In addition, the presence of hexavalent chromium compounds and organic compounds in the composition of the oxidation electrolyte requires special measures to protect personnel and the environment, while the formation of a polymer film using electrodeposition complicates the hardware of the known method and reduces its profitability.
A known method for producing an electrically conductive hydrophobic coating by applying to the surface to be protected a composition containing, in parts by weight: film-forming copolymer 7.25÷8.30, epoxy resin 0.72÷0.83, electrically conductive filler in the form of carbon nanotubes 0.90÷ 2.03. The resulting coatings combine hydrophobic and antistatic properties (contact angle from 106.90 to 135.80°, specific surface resistance up to 16.07 Ohm/m 2 ), however, they are intended mainly for polymer products.
Known (CN113446277, publ. 2021.12.10) method of surface treatment of magnesium alloy to obtain a superhydrophobic composite coating containing MgF 2 , Mg 3 (PO 4 ) 2 , MgO and Mg(OH) 2 . According to the known method, the surface of the alloy is washed with alkali, then anodic oxidation is carried out in an electrolyte containing F - , OH - and PO 4 3- , after which the alloy is subjected to superhydrophobic treatment. The superhydrophobic coating formed on the surface of magnesium alloy products and structures reduces the contact between said surface and the corrosive environment, while increasing the corrosion resistance of the said products and structures. However, anodic oxidation does not provide sufficiently strong adhesion of the formed superhydrophobic layer, which over time can lead to the appearance of some defects in the resulting composite coating, a decrease in its hydrophobic and anticorrosive properties, and a reduction in service life.
Closest to the claimed is (RU2614917, publ. 2017.03.30) a method for producing protective corrosion-resistant coatings on a magnesium alloy with antifriction and hydrophobic properties, which includes plasma-electrolytic oxidation (PEO) in an electrolyte containing, g/l: sodium silicate Na 2 SiO 3 ⋅5H 2 O 15-30 and sodium fluoride NaF 5-10, in a bipolar mode in two stages, while during the first 200-240 s during the anodic polarization of the alloy surface, the process is carried out galvanostatically at a current density of 0.5- 0.7 A/cm 2 up to an anode voltage of 250-270 V, and during cathodic polarization - potentiostatically at a cathode voltage of -(30-40) V, then oxidation is continued for 600-700 s at an anode voltage decreasing to 200-210 V, and the cathode voltage decreasing to -(8-10) V, after which a fluoropolymer layer is applied to the formed substrate by dipping 2-3 times in a solution of tetrafluoroethylene telomers in acetone, followed by drying and heat treatment of the coating ri 250-275°C for at least one hour.
Accumulating during operation on the surface of the coating, the static charge of electricity causes a deterioration in the hydrophobic characteristics of the coating, which causes the surface of the alloy to come into contact with a corrosive environment and reduce the protective properties of the coating. The appearance during operation of defects that violate the integrity of the coating, in the absence of the latter's self-healing function, leads to a gradually increasing corrosion process and a decrease in the durability of protection.
The objective of the invention is to develop a method for obtaining protective coatings on magnesium alloys that are highly hydrophobic and provide long-term protection of products and structures made of magnesium alloys from icing, ice-frost precipitation and corrosion.
The technical result of the method consists in increasing the protective properties of the coatings obtained with its help, enhancing their hydrophobic anti-corrosion properties, increasing their durability by reducing the adhesion of ice and ice-frost deposits by imparting conductive properties to the coating, providing a drain of the accumulated static electric charge.
The specified technical result is achieved by a method for obtaining protective superhydrophobic coatings on magnesium alloys by plasma-electrolytic oxidation in an electrolyte containing sodium silicate and sodium fluoride, with variable polarization of the treated surface in a galvanostatic mode, with the production of a base PEO layer, followed by the application of a polymer film containing polytetrafluoroethylene, in which, unlike the known, plasma-electrolytic oxidation is carried out in an electrolyte containing, g/l: sodium liquid glass Na 2 O(SiO 2 ) n (n=2.5) 10-50 and sodium fluoride NaF 1-10 , for 10-30 min at a current density of 0.10-0.15 A / cm 2 during the anodic polarization of the oxidized surface and 0.01-0.10 A / cm 2 during its cathodic polarization with an increase in voltage from 10- 30 V to 300-400 V for 10 minutes, while the polymer film is formed by spraying a composition containing TUBALL, which is a 2% solution of polyvinylidene fluoride in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, modified cited by the introduction of 0.4 wt. % of single-walled carbon nanotubes, and ultrafine powder of polytetrafluoroethylene in an amount that provides a mass ratio of PVDF:UPTFE = 1:1-5, after which the applied coating is dried at a temperature of 40-70°C for 1-3 hours.
The method is carried out as follows.
1а и 1б при разном увеличении).After standard preparation of a magnesium alloy sample, including cleaning, polishing, and washing, a basic ceramic-like coating with surface micro- and nanopores is formed on its surface by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) (Figs. 1a and 1b at different magnifications).
The basis that provides high adhesion, corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength of the obtained composite coatings is the base heterooxide PEO coating, the two-layer structure of which with a thin, yet very strong, defect-free, highly adhesive sublayer adjacent to the magnesium alloy substrate, and an outer layer with surface micro- and nano-sized pores are formed during oxidation under experimentally tested conditions at a set optimal rate.
NaF 1-10.Oxidation is carried out under conditions of plasma microdischarges in a galvanostatic bipolar mode in an electrolyte containing, g/l: sodium liquid glass Na 2 O(SiO 2 ) n (n=2.5) 10-50 and sodium fluoride NaF 1-10.
With anodic polarization of the oxidized surface, the process is carried out at a current density of 0.05-0.10 A / cm 2 , with its cathodic polarization, the current density is 0.01-0.10 A / cm 2 , while for 10-30 minutes of oxidation, the amplitude the voltage increases from the initial value of 10-30 V to 300-400 V.
% углеродных нанотрубок SWCNT (NMP) 0,4%, в который дополнительно вводят ультрадисперсный порошок политетрафторэтилена (УПТФЭ) в количестве, обеспечивающем массовое соотношение ПВДФ:УПТФЭ = 1:1-5.At the next stage of processing, a composite coating is formed by spraying onto the formed base two-layer PEO coating of the TUBALL composition, which is a 2% (by mass) solution of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) in N-methyl-2 pyrrolidone, modified with the addition of 0.4 wt. % carbon nanotubes SWCNT (NMP) 0.4%, which is additionally injected ultrafine powder of polytetrafluoroethylene (UPTFE) in an amount that provides a mass ratio of PVDF:UPTFE = 1:1-5.
Spraying is carried out using an airbrush (air pressure 3.5-4.0 atmospheres, airbrush nozzle diameter 1.8 mm). Air (under air pressure) spraying of the above-described mixture of TUBALL with ultrafine particles of polytetrafluoroethylene ensures uniformity of the applied coating.
After drying at a temperature of 40-70°C for 1-3 hours, a composite coating with a polymer film is formed on the surface of the alloy, repeating the multimodal surface roughness of the base PEO layer. In FIG. Figure 2 shows SEM images of coatings on AMg3 aluminum alloy obtained at different magnifications: (a - PEO+TUBALL; b and c - PEO+TUBALL+UPTFE at different magnifications).
The addition of UPTFE particles leads to an increase in the multimodality of the coating surface and a reduction in the area of its contact with an aggressive medium, improves its wear resistance and anticorrosion properties, and also significantly reduces the drying time of the polymer film.
Single-walled carbon nanotubes with a thickness of one atom and a length of more than 5 microns have high electrical and thermal conductivity. Due to their properties, they contribute to the discharge of the accumulated charge of static electricity, provide a decrease in the surface energy of the coating and allow maintaining high values of hydrophobic characteristics.
The TUBALL/UPTFE polymer film seals the pores on the surface of the PEO layer, improves the barrier properties of the coating, as well as its electrochemical and anti-friction properties in general.
A solution of PVDF in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone is characterized by stability, the absence of undissolved particles and manifestations of sedimentation, while allowing the introduction of discrete materials: conductive carbon nanotubes and ultrafine PTFE into the composition of a polymer film formed on the surface of a sample with a preliminarily obtained PEO coating. In addition, UPTFE microparticles, firmly bound to the surface of the TUBALL film, form its multilevel roughness, which, in turn, enhances the hydrophobic properties. Thus, the composite coating formed in accordance with the proposed method exhibits long-term high protective and anti-icing properties.
