Abstract
Description
The invention relates to medicine, namely to devices for correcting ingrown and deformed nails.
Various nail correction devices have been developed for the treatment of ingrown or bent nails, in particular toenails, as an alternative to the painful and long convalescent surgery (Emmert wedge nail excision). The action of such devices is based on restoring forces and tensile forces that are applied to the nail, or a combination of both of these mechanisms. The restoring forces act substantially perpendicular to the nail plate. Tensile forces acting substantially parallel to the nail plate create moments on the raised areas of the nail plate.
At the moment, the task of such devices is not just to correct the nail, but also to do it as least invasively as possible. There are also growing demands from consumers regarding the convenience and safety of everyday use of such devices and their aesthetic properties.
From the point of view of non-invasiveness, it is desirable that the device does not have attachment elements that can additionally injure the soft tissues of the finger (grabs, hooks, etc.), be not bulky and allow you to adjust the forces applied to the nail to minimize patient pain. The last two conditions, as a rule, are mutually exclusive, since the more complex the design of the device, the greater the ability to adjust the force it gives. From the point of view of convenience, safety and aesthetic properties, the maximum invisibility to the senses, both of the patient himself and those around him, and the absence of undesirable reactions to the materials used come to the fore.
In practice, the so-called orthonyxic brackets are widespread, which reduce the curvature of the nail plate and thereby unload the nail bed. To ensure a long-term therapeutic effect, these orthonyx staples remain on the nail plate for a long time from several weeks to several months and support its rectilinear growth. Staples for nail correction are, in addition to wire staples, also adhesive staples made of plastic and metal. Depending on the system, the intensity of the force from the clip varies by choosing different sections, materials, or by reducing the thickness of the clip, or by mechanically changing the tensile element, for example, by stretching the wire in the glued state.
The closest analogue of the claimed invention is a device for correcting ingrown and deformed nails, known from the patent EP 0282645. In the well-known technical solution for lifting an excessively curved nail in the region of the lateral outer edges, a plastic plate is used. Under the action of the restoring force of a flat spring, i.e. under the action of a force that acts essentially perpendicular to the nail plate, a correction occurs. In this case, a plate of plastic, elastic in nature, is glued to the nail along its entire length across the direction of its growth using a quick-drying adhesive. It is also mentioned in the patent that, if it is necessary to correct severely curved nails, several plates can be glued one after the other across the direction of nail growth. The plate consists of a thermosetting material, in the best embodiment of the invention reinforced with glass fiber, for example HGW 2372.4. This white material is opaque and visible on the nail. The plate manufacturer produces plates of different lengths in 1 mm increments, but at the same time with the same width (3 mm) and thickness (0.3 mm), which determines their initial rigidity.
Some correction of the elastic force of the plate is possible if it turns out that after fixing it, pain appears. The spring force can then be reduced by simply grinding the surface of the insert with a cutter. However, this approach does not allow changing the force in a controlled way, since it is impossible to determine exactly how much material was removed by grinding and how much this changed the rigidity of the insert. In addition, if the plate is reinforced with fiberglass, which forms the basis of its strength, and is not uniform in thickness, this makes the grinding result even less predictable.
The object of the present invention is to provide aesthetically improved corrective nail preparations, the stiffness of which can be varied within wide limits in a controlled manner.
What is new is that the set consists of plates 200, 300, 500 and 700 microns thick and 3, 4 and 5 mm wide, made of colorless transparent polyethylene terephthalate.
The invention is illustrated in FIG. 1, which shows photographs of corrected nails with plates glued to them, the boundaries of which are underlined with a dotted line for better visualization.
The aesthetic advantages of the proposed set for the correction of ingrown and deformed nails are determined by the material from which the plates are made. Transparent polyethylene terephthalate (see Fig. 1) is almost invisible on the corrected nail. The material is chemically resistant and inert, which not only eliminates the risk of allergic reactions of the body to the plate material or rejection, but also makes it possible to cover the nail with the plate installed with varnish to improve the cosmetic effect.
Polyethylene terephthalate does not need reinforcement, as it is sufficiently strong and elastic in itself. The rigidity of the plate directly depends on its width and thickness. To correct various nail problems, it is convenient to use a set of plates with a width of 3, 4 or 5 mm and a thickness of 200, 300, 500 or 700 microns. In this case, the rigidity of the plate, depending on the need, can be determined with high accuracy even before it is installed. This is achieved by choosing a plate of the required thickness and width from those presented in the set. The material is easily processed with a milling cutter, therefore, after cutting the plate to the desired length and fitting it in place, its corners are rounded off before installation by milling to more evenly distribute the load along the edge. The nail plate is prepared by grinding and degreasing before attaching the plate. After that, the plate is glued along its length to the nail across the direction of its growth in the right place using quick-drying glue (ethyl cyanoacrylate). If necessary, two plates of the same or different stiffness can be installed on the nail, as shown in Fig. 1 below: a 5 mm wide plate is glued closer to the edge of the nail, a 3 mm wide plate is glued closer to the root of the nail. This approach allows you to change the force applied to the corrected nail in a controlled way.
