Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the production of formation fluid (oil and / or gas) after stimulation of wells with acid hydraulic fracturing (HF), namely, to a method for increasing well flow rate by selecting values of well depression that provide an optimal balance between high fluid flow from the formation and non-degraded conductivity hydraulic fractures during production.
Hydraulic fracturing (hydraulic fracturing) is one of the methods of stimulating production from wells by creating fractures in the formation and providing an increased inflow of formation fluid into the well. Fractures are created by high pressure injection of fracturing fluids into the formation. After the completion of hydraulic fracturing, a depression is created at the bottom of the well. Depression is the difference between the reservoir fluid pressure in the area of the well and its bottomhole pressure, causing the movement of oil or gas from the reservoir to the bottom of the well.
Well productivity after acid fracturing (HF) is of undoubted interest for the development of carbonate fields. With acid fracturing, increased fracture conductivity is created due to the etching of its walls by the acid injected into it. In this case, as a rule, a proppant (for example, sand or proppant) is not injected, which would prevent the fracture from closing and losing its conductivity during the production of the formation fluid.
The fracture conductivity is not constant either in time or in space, and varies at each point of the fracture depending on local conditions (such as geometry of wormholes, fluid pressure, rock stresses applied to the fracture, etc.), formation properties (rock material and conductivity, reservoir pressure, etc.), as well as the drawdown of the well. It is the distribution of fracture conductivity for a given drawdown that largely determines the current productivity of the well.
Acid fracturing methods are known in the art (for example, US 6924255 B2, US 7306041 B2, US 20040254079 A1, US 20050113263 A1, US 20090182694) aimed at selecting the injection schedule and materials for placement in the well and creating the desired fracture geometry. These methods do not consider the issues of the optimal mode of bringing the well to production rate after performing hydraulic fracturing work.
US Pat. No. 7,963,327 describes an increase in production by analyzing current production and making corrective actions based on comparison with available information. To implement this method, it is necessary to have at least one well already put into operation.
US 20100300682 A1 discloses a method for increasing production rates by injecting fluids into offset wells, where the choice of optimal strategies and parameters is based on simulation. To implement the known method, it is necessary to have adjacent injection wells.
I., et. al., 2017, Securing Long-Term Well Productivity of Horizontal Wells Through Optimization of Postfracturing Operations. SPE-187104-MS; Karantinos E. et. al. 2016, Choke Management Strategies for Hydraulic Fractured Wells and Frac-Pack Completions in Vertical Wells. SPE-178973; Robinson В. H. 1988, Minimizing Damage to a Propped Fracture by Controlled Flowback Procedures, Journal of Petroleum Technology: 753-759. Many existing approaches described in the open literature (for example, Potapenko D. I., et. Al., 2017, Securing Long-Term Well Productivity of Horizontal Wells Through Optimization of Postfracturing Operations. SPE-187104-MS; Karantinos E. et. Al. . 2016, Choke Management Strategies for Hydraulic Fractured Wells and Frac-Pack Completions in Vertical Wells. SPE-178973; Robinson B. H. 1988, Minimizing Damage to a Propped Fracture by Controlled Flowback Procedures, Journal of Petroleum Technology: 753-759. SPE-15250), are aimed at increasing the reservoir productivity in various ways, including by increasing the drawdown, because it is believed that with an increase in drawdown, the production rate of the production well increases. At the same time, the concept of permissible drawdown is important, the excess of which can cause such negative effects as: destruction of the bottomhole zone of the well, removal of rock fragments, pulling up the tongues of formation water, the formation of natural gas hydrates at the bottomhole or in the formation, crushing of production strings. The disadvantages of these methods can be attributed to the fact that the permissible drawdown is established as a result of long-term and expensive well survey methods. And also, when carrying out technical and economic calculations, the criterion of crack openness and preservation of its conductivity is not taken into account. Thus, the allowable drawdown can be overestimated and, as a result, the fracture will be closed, and the production rate will be significantly lower than the calculated one.
None of the known methods takes into account the geomechanics of fracture closure in the formation, i.e. does not use information on the dependence of the fracture conductivity on the effective stress on its walls to determine the range of allowable drawdowns for the well after acidizing.
The technical result achieved by the implementation of the proposed invention is to ensure the openness of the hydraulic fracture during production by controlling the drawdown, which leads to an improved inflow of reservoir fluid into the well. The proposed method allows you to determine the range of drawdowns that provide maximum well production rates, not only after, but also before the start of well operation, thereby minimizing the risk of incorrect commissioning due to an incorrectly selected drawdown. The method also makes it possible to bring the well into operation faster, because keeping the depression at the upper limit of the critical depression range allows you to get the maximum flow rate at each moment of time.
The specified technical result is achieved by the fact that in accordance with the proposed method for optimizing the production of formation fluid from a well for the selected well, acid fracturing is simulated for the given formation properties, taking into account the injection schedule and the expected well production rate. As a result of modeling, the distribution of the width of the crack walls etched as a result of acid hydraulic fracturing is obtained over its entire surface. A range of possible values of the well depression is selected, and for each value of the depression in the selected range, taking into account the obtained distribution of the width of the etched fracture walls and the given properties of the formation, the profiles of fracture opening, effective stresses applied to the fracture walls, and hydraulic conductivity of the fracture are calculated. Based on the obtained profiles of the hydraulic conductivity of the fracture, the total well production rate is calculated for each drawdown value. The drawdown values are selected that correspond to the maximum production rates of the well or ensure the production rate is not lower than the expected production rate. During subsequent production from the well, the selected drawdown values are maintained.
In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, the specified properties of the formation are used as the target properties of the formation in the expected range of values, taking into account their uncertainty. The refined properties of the formation can be determined by at least one method selected from the group including geophysical well survey methods, hydrodynamic well survey methods, interpretation of mini-hydraulic fracturing data.
In accordance with another embodiment of the invention, when data on the flow rate of the selected well or of adjacent wells is available, the available data on the flow rate of the selected well or of the adjacent wells is compared with the total flow rate of the well calculated as a result of the modeling, and such properties are selected as the refined properties of the formation that give the best match of the calculated flow rate with the available flow data.

The proposed method for optimizing oil and / or gas production from a well after acid fracturing ensures that the fracture conductivity is maintained during production. An open fracture, being more conductive, provides better fluid flow to the well compared to a closed fracture. As a result, the flow rate of the well increases.
As shown in FIG. 1, at the
Then, at

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences, 2000, Vol. 37, p. 231-243) рассчитывают профили раскрытия трещины wi и эффективных напряжений σi, приложенных к стенкам трещины. Then, at stage 4, for each value of the drawdown p i from the range of drawdowns selected at
At the
During the subsequent production of fluid from the well (stage 7), the selected drawdown values are maintained that correspond to the maximum well production rates or ensure the production rate is not lower than the expected production rate.
In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, an acid fracturing simulation is additionally performed for the selected well for the refined reservoir properties in the expected range of values, taking into account their uncertainty. The refined reservoir properties can be determined by one or more methods, for example, using geophysical well survey methods (GIS), hydrodynamic well survey methods (HDT), interpretation of mini-frac data (for example, DataFRAC service provided by Schlumberger).
In accordance with another embodiment of the invention, with a known flow rate of the selected well or adjacent wells, the available data on the flow rate of the selected well or adjacent wells are compared with the total well flow rate calculated as a result of modeling, and such properties are selected as the refined properties of the formation that give the best match. calculated production rate with known production rate.
Accordingly, during the subsequent production of fluid from this well, the drawdown values are maintained that correspond to the maximum production rates of the well or ensure the production rate is not lower than the expected production rate.
Let us consider an example of implementation of this invention to optimize production, which shows how the drawdown values are determined to obtain the highest well rates after acid fracturing.
At the second stage, after the selection of the well, modeling of acid fracturing is carried out (see Fig. 1, stage 2), as a result of which the distribution of the width of the walls of the formed fracture etched as a result of acid fracturing is obtained over its entire surface, as shown on the left in Fig. 2. On the right in FIG. 2 shows the cross-section of the crack corresponding to the horizontal coordinate x = 5 m (i.e. the white dashed line in the figure on the left). It can be seen that there is an open fracture area in the middle of the fracture prior to production.
Next, a range of possible values of the well depression is selected (see Fig. 1, stage 3); in this example, drawdowns from 0 to 100 bar are considered. For each of the drawdown values in the selected range, the fracture opening profile is calculated (see Fig. 2, step 4). FIG. 3 shows the dynamics of fracture opening changes at the corresponding drawdown value, where profile (a) corresponds to 0 bar drawdown, profile (e) to 100 bar drawdown, and the rest of the values are distributed over the range from 0 to 100 bar.
1, этап 4).As a result of the calculation, the profiles of the crack opening, the effective stresses applied to the crack walls, and the hydraulic conductivity of the crack are obtained (see Fig. 1, stage 4).
1, этап 5).Based on the hydraulic conductivity profile, an assessment of the fracture productivity is carried out, expressed by the rate of fluid inflow into the well or the flow rate (see Fig. 1, stage 5).
1, этап 6).FIG. 4 shows the dependence of the production rate on the drawdown value (see Fig. 1, step 5). It can be seen that at first the flow rate increases with an increase in the drawdown, which is also typical for proppant hydraulic fracturing, but then the flow rate begins to decrease due to the closure of the fracture and the corresponding decrease in the productivity of the fracture. It is important to choose the optimal drawdown values at which the maximum production rates will be observed. FIG. 4, the suggested range of optimal depressions is indicated by dashed lines and an arrow (see Fig. 1, step 6).
In the following example, another embodiment of the present invention will be considered, where the drawdown values for achieving maximum production from the well are determined taking into account the uncertainty of the mechanical properties of the formation. This example can be used, firstly, to match the available production data from the well with the expected properties of the formation; and secondly, to determine the drawdown values that provide the maximum well production rate.
For comparison, as the initial state, the result of modeling acid fracturing and the distribution of the width of the walls of the formed fracture etched as a result of acid fracturing from the example given above and shown in Fig. 2. Thus, in this example, steps 1-6 of FIG. 1. However, in addition, added calculations for refined reservoir properties. As the baseline values for the selected formation properties, the values of the selected formation properties from the above example are set, and the other two values of the selected formation properties are set, respectively, above and below the baseline.
To determine the drawdowns providing the maximum well production rate, the range of possible values of the modulus of planar deformation proportional to the Young's modulus of the rock is considered, and for each of them the algorithm described in the above first example is repeated. FIG. 5 shows the graphs of the well flow rate versus drawdown for three different flat deformation moduli:
Also in FIG. 5, vertical lines and an arrow indicate the drawdown interval at which the well flow rate will be close to the maximum for all considered values of the modulus. Thus, even without having accurate parameter values, it is possible to determine the drawdown interval that provides the maximum production level, taking into account the parameter uncertainty.
A similar analysis was performed for various reservoir pressures and the corresponding results are shown in FIG. 6.
Next, the sensitivity of the well flow rate to the minimum rock stress was considered. The results are shown in FIG. 7, where
Thus, when choosing the range of drawdowns that are critical from the point of view of geomechanics, it is necessary to take into account the error in determining the properties of the formation. The optimal range for a set of possible parameters, generally speaking, may not coincide with the optimal range for one specific parameter, as demonstrated in the examples above.
It should be noted that this is only an example of the use of the present invention. For field data, the critical pressure range may differ from the above.
