Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to the field of research and diagnostics of the Caucasian-Mongoloid identity of an individual, and can be used in forensic medicine and forensic science in the examination of living persons and unidentified corpses.
A known method for diagnosing race (Caucasian or Mongoloid) by dermatoglyphic patterns of plantar pads of the toes [1]. The method involves calculating the total diagnostic coefficient and its further analysis. With a positive value of the total diagnostic coefficient, the individual belongs to the Caucasian race, and with a negative value - to the Mongoloid race. The disadvantage of this identification method is the average level of diagnostic efficiency (80% of correctly diagnosed individuals in the control sample).
There is also known a method of determining the Caucasian or Mongoloid affiliation by recognizing the absence or presence of rudiments of ridges in fingerprints [2]. The absence of crest rudiments or single crest rudiments in the field of the finger pattern are characteristic of Mongoloids. A moderate and strong degree of manifestation of crest rudiments is characteristic of Caucasians. Low values of the correlation coefficient between race and crest rudiments indicate the low accuracy of this identification method.
[4].The prototype of the invention is a method for diagnosing Caucasoid or Mongoloid races by comparing a combination of patterns of distal phalanges of the fingers [3]. The method allows the individual to be attributed to the Caucasian race, if arc and loop types of patterns of the distal phalanges of the fingers predominate in him and to the Mongoloid race, if curl types of patterns prevail in him. The disadvantage of this method is the fact that the frequency of occurrence of pattern combinations is less than the frequency of occurrence of individual patterns, therefore, the difference between the frequencies of occurrence of combinations in different groups (Caucasians and Mongoloids) will not be statistically significant. In addition, the number of individual combinations of patterns on 10 fingers was obtained on dermatoglyphic prints of two ethnic samples (Russians - 300, Nenets - 192), which are few in number and statistically unrepresentative for Caucasians and Mongoloids in general [4].
The aim of the invention is to develop a method for establishing the racial identity of an individual by dermatoglyphic patterns of the distal phalanges of ten fingers.
2).To achieve this goal, the proposed method includes fixing the types of dermatoglyphic patterns (Table 1) of the distal phalanges of ten fingers of the individual's hands (Table 2).
At the next stage, an identical combination of dermatoglyphic patterns is searched in the “Database on the combination of papillary patterns of fingers in Caucasians and Mongoloids” [5]. The database [5] contains information on the race, region of residence, sex and types of papillary patterns in the distal phalanges of ten fingers of 1234 Caucasians and 950 Mongoloids. All pattern combinations in the database are unique, i.e. there are no duplicate patterns in any of the racial groups.
If an identical combination of patterns is found, then the racial identification process takes place.
[5].The conclusion about the reliable belonging of the individual to the Caucasian race is accepted if the identical combination of dermatoglyphic patterns belongs only to the Caucasian from the database [5].
[5].The conclusion about the reliable belonging of the individual to the Mongoloid race is accepted if the identical combination of dermatoglyphic patterns belongs only to the Mongoloid from the database [5].
The decision on an indefinite form of inference is made if an identical combination of patterns belongs to both Caucasoid and Mongoloid from the database [5] at the same time.
If an identical combination of dermatoglyphic patterns is not found in the database [5], then a search is made for close pattern combinations, ie. combinations that differ from the combination of the patterns of the studied individual only in the pattern of one of the ten fingers.
[5].The conclusion about the reliable belonging of the individual to the Caucasian race is accepted if the close combinations of patterns belong only to Caucasians from the database [5].
[5].The conclusion about the reliable belonging of an individual to the Mongoloid race is accepted if close combinations of patterns belong only to Mongoloids from the database [5].
3).If close combinations of patterns in the database [5] are found in both Mongoloids and Caucasians, then the frequency of occurrence of N (number; finger; race; pattern) of the patterns of distal phalanges of those fingers for which the dermatoglyphic pattern does not coincide with the pattern of the studied the individual (Table 3).
The conclusion about the probable belonging of an individual to the Caucasian race is accepted if the highest frequency of occurrence of that dermatoglyphic pattern that does not coincide with the pattern of the studied individual corresponds to the representatives of the Caucasian race.
The conclusion about the probable belonging of an individual to the Mongoloid race is accepted if the highest frequency of occurrence of that dermatoglyphic pattern that does not coincide with the pattern of the studied individual corresponds to the representatives of the Mongoloid race.
The decision on an indefinite form of inference is made if the highest frequency of occurrence of that dermatoglyphic pattern that does not coincide with the pattern of the studied individual is zero, or if neither close nor identical combinations of patterns were found in the database.
The proposed method for establishing the racial identity of an individual can be implemented in the work of a forensic forensic expert, for example, when identifying the identity of an unidentified corpse. When an unidentified corpse is found, in the absence of damage to the distal phalanges of ten fingers, the expert fixes the types of dermatoglyphic patterns.
The essence of the proposed method can be illustrated by the following examples.
4).Example 1. The expert recorded the following specific types of dermatoglyphic patterns of the distal phalanges of ten fingers of the test individual's hands (Table 4).
5.Then the search for identical combinations of dermatoglyphic patterns was carried out in the database [5]. The search results are presented in table. five.
Since the identical combination of patterns belongs to an individual of the Caucasian race, there is a reliable form of inference. The individual under study is authentically Caucasian.
6).Example 2. The expert recorded the following specific types of dermatoglyphic patterns of the distal phalanges of ten fingers of the test individual's hands (Table 6).
Then the search for identical combinations of dermatoglyphic patterns was carried out in the database [5]. No identical pattern combinations were found.
7.Next, a search was carried out for close combinations, that is, combinations that differ in a dermatoglyphic pattern on only one finger out of ten. The search results are presented in table. 7.
Проводилось сравнение частот встречаемости дерматоглифических узоров на тех пальцах, на которых узоры не совпали с узорами исследуемого индивида (табл.3):A comparison was made of the frequencies of occurrence of dermatoglyphic patterns on those fingers on which the patterns did not coincide with the patterns of the studied individual (Table 3):
N(8041;2 палец;монг;R)=0,1576;N (8041; 2 fingers; Mong; R) = 0.1576;
N(8513;2 палец;евр;R)=0,2083;N (8513; 2 finger; Heb; R) = 0.2083;
N(7196;2 палец;евр;W)=0,3063;N (7196; 2 finger; Heb; W) = 0.3063;
N(6990;6 палец;евр;А)=0,0551.N (6990; 6th finger; Heb; A) = 0.0551.
Since the highest frequency of occurrence of N (7196; 2 fingers; Heb; W) = 0.3063 belongs to an individual of the Caucasian race, then there is a probable form of inference. The individual being examined is probably a Caucasian.
8).Example 3. The expert recorded the following specific types of dermatoglyphic patterns of the distal phalanges of ten fingers of the test individual's hands (Table 8).
9.Then the search for identical combinations of dermatoglyphic patterns was carried out in the database [5]. The search results are presented in table. nine.
Since identical combinations of patterns belong to individuals of both Caucasoid and Mongoloid races, there is an indefinite form of inference. The race of the individual being examined is not defined.
The data obtained illustrate the simplicity and effectiveness of the proposed method for establishing the racial identity of an individual by the dermato-glyphic patterns of the distal phalanges of ten fingers. If there is a database, the proposed method can be used in practice in forensic medicine and forensic science.
