Abstract
Description
The invention relates to optical communication technology and can be used in the development of equipment for high-speed soliton transmission systems.
The disadvantage of the known device [1] is low speed and high complexity.
The aim of the present invention is to increase the speed of switching the information light flux between two channels.
The technical result is a reliable switching with a high speed of the light flux from one channel to another by changing the plane of polarization under the influence of the Kerr effect.
The specified technical result is achieved in that the switch of optical signals using the Kerr effect is made in the form of a polarization filter, after passing through which the optical beam acquires vertical polarization and is exposed to an electric field in an electro-optical anisotropic substance with birefringence to change the polarization of the wave. Further, the optical beam arrives simultaneously at two polarization filters, and in one filter the polarization vector is deflected relative to the vertical axis by +45 degrees, and in the other filter the polarization vector is deflected relative to the vertical axis by -45 degrees. By applying a switching electric potential, it is possible to deflect the polarization vector of the optical beam to one side or the other, and thus the optical beam will pass through only one polarization filter. Thus, switching from one channel to another will be carried out with high speed, since the Kerr effect is practically inertialess with a speed of the order of 10 -10 s.
FIG. 1 shows a diagram of an optical signal switch using the Kerr effect.
The device works as follows. The information beam acquires vertical polarization after passing through the
If it is necessary to obtain more switching channels, it is possible to increase the parallel and sequential switch of optical signals in two directions to create any branched switching scheme.
