Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to electrical engineering and can be used in the manufacture of thermal batteries.
The energy intensity of thermal batteries is the most important characteristic that determines their choice for practical use.
For the selected electrochemical system, an increase in this characteristic is provided by the time of maintaining the working temperature of the electrochemical cell. This is achieved both by searching for effective thermal insulation of the block of electrochemical elements, and by introducing additional heating means into the design. However, these paths lead to an increase in the size and mass of the battery and, as a consequence, to a decrease in its specific energy consumption.
Known thermal battery [Patent RU No. 245786 class. Н01М 6/20 dated 06/29/2011], consisting of blocks of electrochemical elements placed in a housing electrically interconnected and arranged one after another on a central insulated rod. To ensure the necessary effort, the bellows are installed between the blocks during operation of the battery, and bellows are installed between the blocks, and the blocks themselves are tightened on the rod using fasteners.
The known thermal battery has a low specific energy consumption, which is explained by significant heat losses due to the non-optimal ratio of the end and side surfaces of the battery case, determined by the diameter and height, for a given volume. A significant number of element blocks arranged one after another on a single rod with pressing elements, as well as a large number of switching electrical connections of element blocks made in the form of welding on the outer surface of the blocks, reduces the battery's resistance to external mechanical influences.
The closest in technical essence and the achieved results is a thermal battery [Patent RU No. 2507642, cl.
A disadvantage of the known thermal battery is its low energy consumption and increased sensitivity to external mechanical (shock, vibration and centrifugal) influences. Low energy consumption is explained by large heat losses due to the rapid cooling of the blocks located in compartments, the cases of which are made of metal and have a large external surface. Thermal insulating gaskets do not allow to fully reliably provide thermal protection of blocks from heat losses, and also to exclude the influence of external mechanical influences.
The purpose of this technical solution is to increase the energy intensity of the heat battery and its resistance to external mechanical influences.
For this purpose, a thermal battery is proposed, comprising a housing sealed by a cover, thermal insulation, an ignition device and blocks of electrochemical elements placed in compartments, characterized in that the compartments are made in a heat-resistant matrix fixed to the lid having a ratio of the size of the diameter and height as close as possible to unity for a given volume, the blocks in the compartments are fixed in the radial direction by heat-insulating gaskets, and in the axial self-locking lock springs and combined into a single electric circuit through conductive plates laid in grooves made between the compartments of the matrix, and their activation is carried out by means of pyrotechnic cords fixed in the grooves of the matrix on the side surface of the blocks and connected to the ignition device located at the base of the matrix.
The technical solution, according to which the ratio of the size of the diameter and height as close as possible to unity for a given volume, minimizes heat loss by minimizing the ratio of the external surface area of the matrix (battery) to the volume and thereby significantly increases the time to maintain the working temperature of the electrochemical cells. Deviation from the indicated ratio in any direction leads to an increase in the ratio of surface area to volume and, thereby, to an increase in heat loss.
For a given volume, the number of compartments in the matrix is determined by the need to place the number of electrochemical elements required by the battery’s energy characteristics, taking into account the indicated ratio of the matrix diameter to its height and the given volume.
In addition to optimizing the geometric dimensions of the matrix, the heat loss from the blocks is also facilitated by the implementation of the matrix of heat-insulating material, as well as the installation of heat-insulating gaskets not only between the battery case and the matrix, but also between the compartment wall and each block. These design methods can significantly reduce heat loss from blocks of electrochemical cells and, increasing their duration, increase the energy consumption of the heat battery.
At the same time, heat-insulating gaskets installed between the battery case and the matrix, as well as between the blocks of electrochemical elements and the walls of the compartments, due to their shock-absorbing properties, minimize the effect of various mechanical loads on the blocks of electrochemical elements. This effect is complemented by the installation of self-locking lock springs in each compartment, fixing the working pressure on the block of electrochemical elements.
Figure 1 shows the proposed thermal battery. A matrix with
7.Switching blocks of electrochemical elements, both parallel and serial, is carried out by means of
Thus, the design of the battery assumes the absence of commuting and initiating elements outside the matrix, which makes a significant contribution to the battery's resistance to mechanical stress.
