Abstract
Description
The invention relates to methods for reducing flammability and preventing self-ignition of organoaluminum compounds, which is associated with the inhibition of their oxidation in the gas phase by compounds with the least strongly bonded hydrogen atom. As a combustion inhibitor that increases the autoignition temperature in the gas phase, the claimed technical solution proposed: tetralin, isopropylbenzene or diphenylmethane.
It was previously found that the oxidation of organoaluminum compounds (AOS) (especially lower homologs) is accompanied by self-ignition. As a result of heat release, AOS decompose to finely divided aluminum, hydrogen and a mixture of hydrocarbon gases. Particularly unstable AOSs are those that have branched hydrocarbon radicals in the structure. The highest average rate of thermal decomposition was recorded for triisobutylaluminum (TIBA) (NN Korneev. Chemistry and technology of organoaluminum compounds. M: Publishing House "Chemistry". 1979, 202 p.).
Due to the fact that the AOS oxidation mechanism is of a chain nature and their inhibition is carried out by compounds with the least strongly bonded hydrogen atom, studies have been conducted to study the inhibition of AOC oxidation by hydrocarbons using the example of TIBA.
Known extinguishing composition for extinguishing fires (Authorship certificate SU No. 1183128, publ. 07.10.1985), used to extinguish flammable (LVH) and combustible liquids (PC), including tetrafluorodibromoethane (TFDBE) in the amount of 96-99% of the mass. and 1-4% of the mass. perfluoroethylamine.
Known extinguishing composition for extinguishing fires (Copyright Certificate SU No. 724145 of December 7, 1979), designed to extinguish fires LVZH and GZH, consisting of 99-99.5% of the mass. TFDE and 0.5-1% of the mass. phosphorus chloride).
Known extinguishing composition for extinguishing fires (Copyright Certificate SU No. 835452 of February 6, 1981), designed to extinguish LVH and GZ, consisting of 98-98.5% of the mass. TFDBE and 1.5-2% of the mass. cyclopentadienyltricarbonyl manganese).
The analysis of these compounds by fire extinguishing ability shows that all of them contribute to increasing the fire extinguishing efficiency of TFDBE in quenching LVH and GF by increasing the inhibitory effect in the gas phase.
Known inhibitor of the combustion of hydrocarbon-air mixtures in closed volumes (Copyright certificate No. 981338 of August 16, 1982), consisting of 95-95.5% of the mass. TFDBE and 5-15% of the mass. boron bromide and taken as a prototype of the claimed technical solution.
As studies on the selection of effective TIBA combustion inhibitors have shown, this composition can be used as a means of preventing the burning of TIBA and other AOS (which include triethylaluminium (TEA), with a certain ratio of TFDBE and boron bromide additives.
However, this composition is a very toxic product.
The objective of the present invention is to increase the temperature of autoignition and reduce the combustibility of AOS, such as TIBA, most often used as a catalyst in the technological process for the production of organic polymeric materials.
The essence of the proposed method lies in the fact that tetralin, or isopropylbenzene, or diphenylmethane solvents having in their chemical structure the least strong bond of carbon with the hydrogen atom С-Н.
Сущность заявляемого состава заключается в том, что в ингибиторе горения для повышения температуры самовоспламенения триизобутилалюминия, представляющего собой вещество, снижающее его горючесть в жидкой фазе, вещество, используемое одновременно как флегматизатор в жидкой фазе, так и ингибитор горения, повышающий температуру самовоспламенения в газовой фазе, содержит в качестве растворителя - тетралин, или изопропилбензол, или дифенилметан при следующих соотношениях компонентов в жидкой фазе: мас.%,The essence of the claimed composition is that in a combustion inhibitor to increase the autoignition temperature of triisobutylaluminium, which is a substance that reduces its combustibility in the liquid phase, a substance used both as a phlegmatizer in the liquid phase and a combustion inhibitor that increases the autoignition temperature in the gas phase, contains tetralin or isopropylbenzene or diphenylmethane as a solvent in the following ratios of components in the liquid phase: wt.%,
The technical effect realized by the claimed method is due to the following.
Dilution of TIBA with substances that are combustion inhibitors in the gas phase increases its autoignition temperature. In this case, the radical-chain process of AOS oxidation in the presence of solvents having the least strong bond of the carbon atom with the hydrogen atom in its chemical structure dominates, and this circumstance limits the stage of the attachment of O 2 to radicals with a weak С-Н bond. (Encyclopedia. Fire Safety, pp. 107 and 384. M., Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, 2007, 405 p .; AN Baratov. Combustion-Fire-Explosion-Safety. M. VNIIPO EMERCOM of Russia, 2003. 363 p. ; A.N. Baratov, I.S. Molchadsky. Burning in a fire. M. VNIIPO EMERCOM of Russia, 2011, 502 p.).
The technical effect realized by the claimed composition is due to the following.
The use as a combustion inhibitor of AOS of a substance used simultaneously as a phlegmatizer in the liquid phase and a combustion inhibitor that increases the self-ignition temperature in the gas phase and contains tetraline, or isopropylbenzene, or diphenylmethane as a solvent, allows one to obtain an inhibition effect in the radical chain mechanism AOS interactions with these substances. As a result of the interaction, low-activity radicals are formed, which easily recombine and are not prone to the chain extension reaction, which allows one to interrupt the named reaction and realize its complete inhibition.
It is completely obvious that the process of inhibition of organoaluminum compounds (AOS) in the gas phase is a chain, therefore, according to the inventors, when substantiating and choosing combustion inhibitors, one should proceed from this position.
At present, AOS are used in the chemical industry in the form of catalysts, the most widely used of which are triisobutylaluminum (TIBA). All the basic properties of organoaluminum compounds are inherent in these compounds: low stability, a tendency to self-ignition and intense combustion. Particularly unstable AOSs are those that have branched hydrocarbon radicals in their structure.
Therefore, this representative of organoaluminum compounds, the inventors propose to limit the range of substances in the claimed technical solution.
The benzene molecule contains alternating three double C = C and three single C — C bonds. Double bonds indicate the unsaturated nature of benzene. All the hydrogen atoms in the benzene molecule are equivalent due to the identical nature of the carbon - hydrogen bonds in the benzene core. This compound is relatively stable, which cannot be said about its derivatives, for example, such as tetralin (tetrahydronaphthalene) C 10 H 12 , which includes four benzene rings, diphenylmethane (C 5 H 5 ) 2 CH 2 , which includes three benzene rings, isopropylbenzene C 6 H 5 CH 2 CH 2 CH 3 , including one benzene ring. 2.Derivatives of benzene due to the deformation of the molecule acquire polarity, and hydrogen atoms mobility. Hydrogen in these compounds, containing one or two hydrogen atoms, becomes mobile and interacts with AOS. Therefore, only benzene derivatives containing one or two hydrogen atoms with a weak C — H bond should be used as an inhibitor of the AOS oxidation process. Data on testing benzene derivatives are presented in table. 1 (experiments No. 2-9) and in table. 2.
Since the mechanism of oxidation of AOC compounds and, in particular, TIBA, has a chain nature and its inhibition is carried out by compounds (hydrocarbons) in which the CH bond is the least strong.
Studies have been conducted to study the inhibition of oxidation by hydrocarbons TIBA. The most effective compounds should be those with the weakest, but at the same time affordable CH bond. These include the following compounds: tetralin, isopropylbenzene, diphenylmethane.
The claimed technical solution can be implemented taking into account the following information.
М. The fire and explosion hazard of AOS is due to their high reactivity, high value of heat of combustion (~ 42 10 3 kJ / kg) and is manifested in a tendency to self-ignition and intense combustion. Their concentrated solutions have pronounced pyrophoric properties: self-ignition of these compounds in air occurs at very low temperatures, and the ignition range between the lower and upper temperature limits is wider than that of the corresponding hydrocarbons. For example, pure (100% of the main substance, mass.) TIBA (Al (iso-С 4 Н 9 ) 3 has a self-ignition temperature of minus 40 ° C, the concentration limits of flame propagation are 1.6-8.7% (vol.), In while isobutane spontaneously ignites at a temperature of 460 ° C and a flame propagation range of 1.8 to 8.4% (vol.). Another example: the temperature of auto-ignition of triethylaluminium (99.7% by weight of the basic substance) is minus 68 ° C , and the self-ignition temperature of ethane is 472 ° C. (NN Korneev. Chemistry and technology of organoaluminum compounds. M: Publishing house "Chemistry". 1979, 204 p .; . I. Korolchenko. Fire and explosion hazard of substances and materials and their extinguishing Handbook, parts 1 and 2. M. Association of Pozhnauka., 2000). When self-igniting AOS, intense white vapor formation with rapid self-heating and sparking, which in Afterwards, it enters into flame combustion, enrichment of the AOC vapor phase with oxygen leads to a decrease in the self-ignition temperature, and a decrease in its concentration in the atmosphere leads to an increase in temperature. So, highly concentrated AOS can spontaneously ignite at room temperature with only 5-6% (vol.) Oxygen in the vessel (NN Korneev. Chemistry and technology of organoaluminum compounds. M. Publishing House "Chemistry". 1979. 204 s .).
Inhibition of the processes of liquid-phase oxidation of combustible substances is possible only if these processes are of a radical-chain nature.
According to modern ideas about the radical-chain mechanism of hydrocarbon oxidation ((E.T. Denisov, N.M. Emanuel. Advances in Chemistry. No. 27. T. 365. 1958; N.M. Emanuel, E.T. Denisov, ZK Mayzus “Chain reactions of hydrocarbon oxidation in the liquid phase.” M. Publishing House “Science.” 1965; AS Sokolik. Self-ignition, flame and detonation in gases. M. Publishing House of the USSR Academy of Sciences. 1960. 427 s, chapter 2) this process is carried out as a result of the alternation of two reactions
где RH - любое соединение, обладающее связью С-Н с достаточно подвижным атомом водорода.where RH is any compound having a CH bond with a sufficiently mobile hydrogen atom.
If, by introducing a substance into the reaction, it is possible to create competition for the reactions ROO * + RH ROOH + R * due to a faster reaction interaction
то в результате образуются малоактивные радикалы, легко рекомбинирующие и не склонные к реакции продолжения цепей и окисление можно полностью затормозить.then, as a result, inactive radicals are formed that easily recombine and are not prone to chain extension reactions and oxidation can be completely inhibited.
Thus, inhibition is determined by the participation of the inhibitor in the chain extension reaction. The interaction of the radical with the inhibitor can follow two mechanisms determined by reactions (3) and (4). The reaction rate (3) depends on the In-H bond strength. The most active inhibitors of this type will be compounds with the least strongly bonded hydrogen atoms, such as benzene derivatives. It is these compounds that should be used in practice for the inhibition of hydrocarbons.
The mechanism of reaction (4) is based on the formation of a donor – acceptor bond between the radical and the inhibitor. In order for the bond to form, you need an inhibitor with free energy levels that can interact with free valency.
Compounds with similar properties are multicore aromatic hydrocarbons with electrophilic substituents.
Thus, the action of inhibitors both in reaction (3) and in reaction (4) is based on their interaction with radicals, i.e. their scope is possible with the radical chain mechanism of AOS oxidation.
The results of numerous studies reviewed in a monograph by N.N. Korneeva. Chemistry and technology of organoaluminum compounds. M .: Publishing. "Chemistry". 1979, 255 s (p. 85-91), indicates a chain mechanism of AOS oxidation.
At the first stage, during the oxidation of AOS, peroxides of the composition are formed:
R3Al+O2=R2AlOOR,R 3 Al + O 2 = R 2 AlOOR,
которые затем перегруппировываются в алюминийалкоксисоединения:which are then rearranged into aluminum alkoxy compounds:
R3Al+R2AlOOR=2R2AlOR.R 3 Al + R 2 AlOOR = 2R 2 AlOR.
The resulting peroxides undergo various transformations, including bimolecular disproportionation and intramolecular rearrangements. During the oxidation of AOS, hydrocarbons are formed (paraffins, aldehydes and ethers). The formation of hydrocarbons is explained by the partial course of the reaction by the free-radical mechanism or as a result of the formation of dimeric hydrocarbons by the trimolecular reaction.
Since the mechanism of AOS oxidation is of a chain nature and their inhibition is carried out by compounds with the least strongly bound hydrogen atom, studies have been conducted to study the process of inhibition of AOC oxidation by hydrocarbons using the example of TIBA.
Based on the studies, the following class of solvents was selected: benzene (an inert solvent for comparison), tetraline, isopropylbenzene, diphenylmethane (DFM), arranged in order of decreasing C — H bond strength.
The criterion for assessing the inhibitory ability of the compositions was the fact of non-ignition of the mixture of AOS with the addition of tetralin or DPM.
The tests were carried out under laboratory conditions at room temperature (20 ° C) in a 500 ml reaction vessel. Concentrated (99% TIBA) was transferred from a metal container into a glass vessel using nitrogen gas (special purification). Then, with the help of nitrogen, a certain amount of solvent (DFM or tetralin) was poured into the reaction vessel and mixed with TIBA using a glass stirrer, which was mounted on the lid of the vessel. When the lid of the reaction vessel was opened, ignition of the mixture of TIBA with the solvent occurred (or did not occur). The ignition of the mixture was recorded visually, as well as by increasing the temperature inside the vessel using a thermocouple.
1.The test results for determining the concentration of additives (DFM, tetralin), at which the mixture with TIBA occurs (or does not occur), are presented in table. one.
As can be seen from the data table. 1, additives of DMF and tetralin reduce the self-ignition intensity of TIBA. The critical concentration of additives, at which spontaneous ignition of TIBA does not occur, is 47.5% of the mass.
The radical-chain nature of the oxidation of AOS in the presence of solvents is confirmed analytically according to the results of experiments.
The curves of the temperature change over time during the interaction under the given conditions of the solvent and TIBA were constructed. From the heat balance equation, made up of the equality of the chemical reaction rate (according to the Arrhenius equation) and heat removal (according to Newton's equation), the value of the activation energy and the reaction order were determined.
In the calculations, we used the initial part of the curve of the dependence of the heating temperature over time, where the influence of the final products on the reaction rate can be neglected.
As a result of processing the experimental data, the dependences of the rate constant of the TIBA concentration change and the TIBA consumption rate in time were established.
2.The obtained data on the values of the activation energy and the order of the reaction, obtained from the dependence of the rate constant of the concentration change and the rate of consumption of TIBA after averaging, are summarized in table. 2.
Data analysis table. 2 shows that the use of solvents with a weak bond affects the course of the reaction: the activation energy increases, the reaction order decreases. If for benzene the reaction order is ~ 1, then for the rest it is fractional and close to 0.5. These data indicate the radical-chain nature of the TIBA oxidation process in the presence of solvents, and it is this process that limits the stage of addition of O 2 to radicals with a weak С-Н bond. At the same time, it is confirmed that TIBA spontaneous combustion can be prevented by using the following compounds for this purpose: tetralin, isopropylbenzene, diphenylmethane with a weak CH bond.
The proposed composition for inhibiting the oxidation of TIBA with an increase in their autoignition temperature and at the same time for reducing the fire hazard of concentrated TIBA solutions by phlegmatizing them with solvents with a weak CH bond to concentrations not self-igniting under ordinary conditions of AOC solutions has the prospects of using the above additives under ordinary conditions.
