Abstract
Description
The invention relates to nuclear energy and is aimed at improving the internal self-protection and safety of channel nuclear reactors.
A fuel device of a nuclear reactor is known [RU No. 2253156, G21C 3/30, 3/00, 7/00, 08/21/2003], containing a vertical technological channel in which fuel elements and alternating absorbing blocks are installed on support blocks, at least at least some of which are made with a cavity communicated with the volume of the technological channel and contain an absorber in the cavity - a powder of boron compound enriched with the boron-10 isotope, dispersed in an emergency by boiling coolant into the technological channel. Part of the absorbing blocks contains a burnable absorber.
The disadvantage of this fuel device is that due to the "parasitic" absorption of neutrons by boron-10 nuclei, the reactivity coefficient of both the fuel channel and the reactor core decreases. In addition, at the locations of the absorbing blocks, dips in the neutron flux are observed and, therefore, the fading of fissile isotopes in adjacent fuel elements is reduced.
Another disadvantage of this device is the complexity of manufacturing absorbing blocks with a cavity.
A device for emergency protection of a nuclear reactor [SU No. 1816145, G21C 7/00, 7/30, 12/19/1989] is known, comprising a pillar of fuel elements made of fissile material mounted in a vertical channel on a support; the lower part of the column of fuel elements is connected with a support element made in the form of a wedge tapering to the upper part, which is taken as a prototype. Above the site of placement of fuel cells in the region of the upper boundary of the reactor core in the channel there is a narrowing along the inner surface. The inner diameter of the narrowing is greater than the diameter of the fuel blocks and less than the maximum diameter of the wedge of the support element. There is a cavity above the narrowing, the volume of which is sufficient to accommodate all fuel blocks. In the event of an accident with a rupture of the supply pipe, a pressure drop occurs in the process channel, boiling occurs in the saturated liquid and the hydrodynamic force arising at the same time acting on the column of fuel blocks and the support element, ejects the fuel blocks from the core from the bottom up, and the support element rises to narrow wedges in it.
The disadvantage of this device is that when the fuel blocks located below the center of the core are ejected from the bottom up, the magnitude of the power surge increases, since the fuel blocks pass through the zone of maximum neutron flux density, which is approximately at the center of the core. The boiling point of the coolant is usually located approximately in the center of the core, where the neutron flux density is maximum. The occurrence of volumetric boiling in the central part of the core leads to the formation of hydrodynamic forces directed both to the top and bottom of the core, which leads to an increase in the inertia of this device, because until the boiling point of the coolant moves to the lower part of the channel, the normal functioning of this device is hindered.
In accordance with the rules of nuclear safety, the emergency protection system must ensure reliable shutdown of the reactor and subcriticality of the active zone of at least 0.02 for the state of the active zone with the maximum effective multiplication factor (Nuclear Safety Rules "ПБЯ-РУ-АЭС-89", clause 3.22) . Therefore, the most important thing in the event of an accident with a rupture of the supply pipe and boiling of the coolant is not to keep the fuel blocks outside the active zone, but to reduce the surge in reactivity and thereby prevent an uncontrolled increase in reactor power over the time necessary for the emergency protection system to operate the reactor. The inertia of the reactor emergency protection system is determined by the time the alarm was generated and the time the absorbing rods were introduced into the core.
Another disadvantage of this device is that the manufacture of narrowing in the channel and the supporting wedge-shaped device is quite difficult.
The objective of the invention is to provide a device for emergency protection of a nuclear reactor, providing a supercritical neutron state in normal operation of a nuclear reactor and a subcritical state in an accident with boiling and loss of coolant, including reducing the magnitude of the power surge due to the inertia of the emergency protection system.
Th232.The problem is solved in that in a device for emergency protection of a nuclear reactor containing a cavity located above the active zone, a column of fuel elements installed in the vertical technological channel on the supporting blocks, forming a part of the active zone and washed by the coolant, is installed between the fuel elements in the central part of the technological channel hollow cylindrical blocks in the form of glasses with the bottom part up. To reduce the effect of dehydration in an accident associated with the loss of coolant, part of the fuel cells located directly under the hollow cylindrical blocks are based on Th 232 .
The dimensions and number of hollow blocks are selected in such a way as to ensure the magnitude of the hydrodynamic force directed from the bottom up, necessary for the accelerated withdrawal of fuel cells located above the hollow blocks outside the core during boiling of the coolant. The total height and number of hollow cylindrical blocks in the channel is determined depending on the total mass of fuel elements located above the hollow cylindrical blocks, as well as the reactivity coefficient of the fuel channel, by solving optimization problems.
Hollow blocks are made of aluminum or zirconium.
The invention is illustrated by the example of the design of a device for emergency protection of a nuclear reactor, a general view of which is shown in the drawing.
4,5.The emergency protection device comprises a technological channel 1, in which fuel elements 3, 4, 6 and hollow cylindrical blocks 5 are installed on the support blocks 2. Hollow cylindrical blocks 5, made in the form of glasses, are located bottom up in the central part of the technological channel 1 between the fuel elements 4 and 6. Fuel elements 3, 4 and 6 are cooled by water coolant 7 supplied from the pressure pipe 8 and discharged through the pipe 9. There is a cavity 10 above the upper boundary of the active zone in the channel 1, the volume of which is sufficient ene to contain all of the fuel cell 4. The fuel elements 3 and 4 are based on uranium, enriched in the isotope U 235 ≤95%, dispersed in an aluminum matrix. The density of uranium in fuel cells 3 and 4 does not exceed 500 kg / m 3 . The fuel cells 6 are based on Th 232 and are installed below the hollow cylindrical blocks 5 and above the fuel cells 3. The thorium density in the fuel cells 6 is in the range of 11500-11700 kg / m 3 . The ratio of the specific gravity of fuel elements based on thorium 6 to the specific gravity of fuel cells based on uranium 3 and 4 is in the range from 3.5 to 4.5.
Under normal conditions of operation of the reactor, the coolant 7 from the pressure pipe 8 is supplied under pressure to the process channel 1. The heat carrier 7, removing heat from the fuel elements 3, 4 and 6, is heated and enters the discharge pipe 9. In case of emergency depressurization of the pressure part of the reactor primary circuit, the pressure in the pressure pipe 8 drops to ambient pressure. In a saturated liquid, volume boiling occurs, in which the coolant passes from a single-phase state to a two-phase state in the form of a steam-water mixture, which expands during the evaporation of water. In this case, the spectrum of thermal neutrons becomes high-energy. According to the results of evaluative calculations, the initial boiling point of the coolant corresponds approximately to the middle of the reactor core, where the neutron flux density, as well as the temperature of the fuel cells and metal structures, have maximum values. The hydrodynamic force arising as a result of boiling of the coolant acting on the fuel elements 4 and hollow blocks 5 from the bottom up, throws them outside the active zone into the cavity 10. The number and dimensions of the hollow blocks 5 are chosen in such a way as to ensure accelerated removal of the fuel elements 4 outside the active zone .
The accelerated removal of the fuel elements 4 outside the core of the nuclear reactor, in the event of an emergency pressure drop at the inlet to the channel of the core, leads to a decrease in the reactivity of the reactor to negative values and termination of the chain reaction of fission of fuel. In addition, the use of Th 232 in fuel cells 6 makes it possible, due to their large mass, to prevent the fuel elements 3 based on U 235 from being thrown towards the center of the core and, thus, reduce the power surge due to the inertia of the emergency protection system. The advantage of using Th 232 as an absorber, in comparison with the absorber used in the analogue, is that not only does the dehydration effect decrease, but nuclear fuel is also reproduced, ensuring the required reactor reactivity margin during the campaign.
The relevance of reliable protection of the reactor from the consequences of an accidental rupture of the pressure part of the primary circuit is high, since it is accompanied by high rates of development of emergency processes and likely serious consequences in the event of a transition of the reactor to a supercritical state. The presence in the reactor of an appropriate number of channels containing hollow blocks and thorium fuel cells according to the invention, due to the high-speed ejection of fuel cells 4 from the core and the holding of thorium fuel cells 6 by fuel cells 3 in the lower part of the core, does not allow the reactor to transition to the supercritical state and eliminates the possibility of a power surge during the time required for the emergency protection system to operate.
