Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the production of granular aluminum fluoride from powdered aluminum fluoride, which is widely used in the aluminum industry.
A known method of producing granular aluminum fluoride, in which granulation is carried out by spraying a solution of aluminum fluoride concentration of 21-47% on the particles of solid aluminum fluoride in a blade screw at 110-350 ° C and carry out the drying of the resulting finished product at 550 ° C.
С 01 F 7/50, 1980 г.).The disadvantage of this method is the low strength of the obtained granules of aluminum fluoride, which complicates its transportation. Storage of insufficiently strong aluminum fluoride granules in silos or silos results in crushing of particles and the formation of dust. This is a significant drawback, since aluminum fluoride is a hazard class 2 hazardous substance (Austrian Patent No. 355543, class C 01 F 7/50, 1980).
Closest to the described by the technical essence and the achieved result is another known method for producing granular aluminum fluoride, in which the granulation process involves mixing powdered aluminum fluoride with a liquid fluorine-containing component, granulating the resulting mixture and heat treatment of granules at elevated temperature.
С 01 F 7/50, 1995 г.).This method uses aluminum fluoride obtained by a hydrochemical method through aluminum fluoride trihydrate. As a liquid component, a 10-18% solution of aluminum fluoride is taken, and the mass ratio of the liquid component and powdered aluminum fluoride is maintained equal to 30-100: 1, and the mixture is granulated in a fluidized bed apparatus in a gaseous coolant stream at 185-200 ° C by spraying a solution of aluminum fluoride onto a solid product. Mixing of components and granulation take place simultaneously. Then, the obtained granules go to heat treatment (calcination) at a temperature of 550 ° C (RF Patent No. 2038305, class C 01 F 7/50, 1995).
The disadvantages of this method are the large moisture removal due to the fluidized bed, which leads to increased energy costs, instability of the composition of the obtained product, insufficient strength of the obtained granules, and therefore significant losses and dust extraction. So the strength of the granules ranges from 1.17 to 1.55 kg.
In addition, as an initial component, a more expensive product is used, which generally makes the process more expensive.
We set the task to create a method for producing granular aluminum fluoride from a powdery product, which allows us to obtain a product with a stable grain composition, to change and regulate the size of granules depending on customer requirements, as well as to increase their strength and reduce energy costs for production.
The problem is solved in a method for producing granular aluminum fluoride, comprising mixing powdered aluminum fluoride with a liquid fluorine-containing component, granulating the resulting mixture and heat treatment of the obtained granules at elevated temperatures. In the proposed method, first, powdered aluminum fluoride is subjected to mechanical activation in a knife activator for 2-10 minutes, then most of the mechanically activated powdered aluminum fluoride is mixed with a liquid fluorine-containing component in a turbopaste granulator, using hydrofluoric acid or its mixture with a fluoride solution aluminum, mixing lead to a moisture mixture of 19-29%. The remainder of the powdered aluminum fluoride is introduced into the mixture to reduce the mixture moisture to 10-17%. Next, the mixture is granulated, adjusting the rotor speed and the process time to obtain granules of a given size.
The mixture of hydrofluoric acid and aluminum fluoride solution contains wt.%: Aluminum fluoride 5-10, hydrofluoric acid 10-20, the rest is water. The heat treatment of the obtained granules is carried out at a temperature of 200-400 ° C. The ratio of the flows of powdered aluminum fluoride and liquid fluorine-containing component is selected based on the stated moisture content of the mixture.
The essence of the method is as follows. To increase the specific surface area and change the autogesion properties of the powder, mechanical activation of the powder is carried out for 2-10 minutes. This time interval is selected experimentally. Reducing the processing time does not give the desired effect, and increasing it is impractical. Next, most of the activated powder in a turbopaste granulator is mixed with a liquid fluorine-containing component, which is used as hydrofluoric acid or its mixture with aluminum fluoride. As we have established, in the case of the use of hydrofluoric acid in its interaction with aluminum fluoride, the latter partially dissolves with the further formation of crystallization bridges, which in the process of heat treatment and granulation leads to hardening of the obtained granules. In the case of using a mixture of hydrofluoric acid with a solution of aluminum fluoride during heat treatment, crystalline bridges are formed on the surface of the granules, which also allows to significantly increase the strength of the obtained granules. The use of one or another liquid fluorine-containing component depends on the method of producing powdered aluminum fluoride (from ammonium cryolite using hydrofluoric acid, based on hydrofluoric acid, etc.). The amount of mechanically activated aluminum fluoride powder and, accordingly, the amount of a solution of a liquid fluorine-containing component are also determined experimentally, depending on the speed of mixing, on the properties of the powder, depending on the method of its preparation. A prerequisite at this stage is to achieve a moisture content of the mixture of 20-29%. Such humidity of the mixture allows the process to be carried out in the mode of overmoistening, which leads to an acceleration of nucleation of granules in the mixture. But an increase of more than 29% will lead to adhesion and clumping of the mixture. Next, to reduce moisture to 10-17%, the remainder of the mechanically activated powder is added to the mixture. This process management (with the division of the powder supply into two parts) allows to intensify the granulation process and to obtain the most durable granules. The granulation process is carried out by regulating the rotor speed of the turbopaste granulator and the processing time depending on the given size of the granules.
Heat treatment is carried out at a temperature of 200-400 ° C, which is sufficient to obtain durable granules of the finished product.
