Abstract
Description
The proposed technical solution relates to machine and / or instrumentation, namely to the manufacture of high-speed flywheels.
Flywheels are designed with a multiple margin of safety (the ratio of the tensile strength or yield strength of a material to maximum operational loads). In this regard, very high demands on the yield strength are imposed on the material of the high-speed flywheel. However, excessively high hardening leads to a decrease in the plastic properties of the metal. There is a paradox: the greater the tensile strength of the alloy, the greater the likelihood of the flywheel breaking from a hub or a random defect (crack during heat treatment, defect in forging) even at low operational loads. To ensure high yield strengths and elasticities, taking into account the need to maintain satisfactory ductility of the material, expensive high-alloy steels, such as maraging, are used.
Known methods for the manufacture of high-strength flywheels by winding the flywheel rim with high-strength tape, wire [1]. The disadvantages of this method include insufficient structural rigidity, lack of solidity of the hub with a rim.
A known method of manufacturing high-speed rotating structures, when in order to increase the yield strength and reduce microplastic deformation of the material, the retaining ring is pre-deformed in the radial direction to increase the diameter by 0.1-3% [2]. Such deformation is also a mechanical test of the ring. This method is taken by us as a prototype.
The disadvantage of this method is that for preliminary mechanical deformation of a design such as a flywheel, complex technological equipment is required. In addition, the internal stress fields created in the flywheel material by such deformation are not optimal with respect to the condition of uniform tension of all elements of the flywheel during its acceleration.
The claimed technical solution aims to influence the material of the flywheel, ensuring its optimal perception of dynamic loads.
The problem is solved as follows. A flywheel made of a highly plastic material with a relatively low yield strength (50-120 kgf / mm 2 ) is subjected to dynamic molding after preliminary balancing, i.e. acceleration to speeds exceeding the working speed by 1.5-2 times and causing plastic deformation of the material and an irreversible increase in the diameter of the flywheel by 0.1-3%. After dynamic molding, the flywheel is finally balanced. The flywheel can be composite, with the rolling ring being pressed onto the rim by a reinforcing ring. In this case, dynamic molding may be carried out before and / or after pressing.
The claimed method differs from the prototype in that the preliminary plastic deformation of the flywheel material is carried out dynamically, by accelerating to speeds significantly exceeding the working ones.
Dynamic molding of the flywheel increases the yield strength of the material by 5-50% and the elastic limit by 50-100%. In addition, due to plastic deformation oriented in the direction of operation of the operating loads, stress fields that are favorable in magnitude and direction are formed inside the flywheel, ensuring uniform tension of all elements of the flywheel during its operation. Dynamic molding ensures geometry stability and balance. At the same time, this operation is a test of the flywheel's strength.
The rolled ring, in comparison with the massive forged flywheel billet, has higher strength characteristics with the same ductility. Being pulled over the flywheel rim, it reduces tensile stresses that occur in the flywheel during acceleration.
Using the proposed solution will allow the use of economically alloyed steels for the manufacture of high-speed flywheels.
Example 1. A flywheel with a diameter of 300 mm is made of forged steel 12X13, selected because of the possibility of hardening heat treatment without the use of liquid quenching media (a massive part can crack when quenched in water or even oil), the optimal combination of strength and toughness, high relaxation resistance, low gas separation in vacuum. After hardening thermal (air quenching with blowing by a fan and subsequent low tempering) and preliminary mechanical treatments, the flywheel was subjected to dynamic molding with acceleration to 12000 rpm. After dynamic molding, the diameter of the flywheel rim increased by 0.3 mm. Subsequent acceleration to 11000 rpm did not lead to a change in the geometry and balancing of the flywheel.
Example 2. A flywheel with a diameter of 280 mm is made of forged steel 12X13, subjected to air hardening and low tempering. A reinforcing ring with a diameter of 300 mm was pressed onto it with a tightness of 0.5 mm from a rolled ring billet made of steel 20X13, hardened in air and tempered at 550 o C. The assembled flywheel was subjected to dynamic molding with acceleration to 13000 rpm. Subsequent acceleration to 12,000 rpm did not lead to a change in the geometry and balancing of the flywheel.
