Abstract
Description
The proposed composition relates to water treatment and can be used to soften and purify a number of organic impurities of drinking water both at home and in production conditions.
Various formulations are known for softening water. So, for example, to eliminate temporary stiffness use the so-called milk of lime containing 10 15% slaked lime and 90 85% water [1, 2]
To eliminate constant stiffness, Na 2 CO 3 and (or) NaOH compounds are used in dry form or in the form of aqueous solutions of various concentrations (from 20 to 40%) [1, 2]
A disadvantage of the known compounds is their unsuitability for softening drinking water, as well as the relative duration of the water treatment process.
The unsuitability of the sodium compound for water softening is explained by the fact that a high concentration of sodium ions in water is unacceptable (more than 10 100 mg / l), because it causes cardiovascular disease [3, 4]
The duration of the process of water softening using known compositions is explained by the fact that lime and sodium compounds interact with each other, as a result of which their ability to soften water is lost. Therefore, they must be given separately, waiting for each individual train to work out.
The aim of the proposed composition is to improve the quality of softened drinking water and accelerate the process of softening.
The goal is achieved in that in the composition for softening water based on carbon dioxide of a metal and water, in contrast to the prototype, carbonic potassium and hard water with a total hardness of 4 to 30 mEq./l are introduced in the following ratio of components, wt.
hard water the rest.
Potassium carbonate, reacting with water components that determine its temporary and permanent hardness, contributes to their fast binding into insoluble compounds that precipitate.
On the other hand, potassium compounds are very beneficial for humans, animals, plants and the environment.
In potable water, a concentration of potassium ions of up to 2000 mg / l is permissible, i.e. 20 ± 200 times more than sodium compounds.
The concentration limits of the constituent components are explained as follows.
When the content of K 2 CO 3 in a concentration of 15.0 to 16.0%, it is possible to soften raw cold drinking water for 3-6 hours (depending on the composition and magnitude of the water hardness).
The use of hard water for the preparation of the composition is explained by the fact that as a result of the use of such water a suspension is formed containing insoluble compounds of calcium and magnesium (CaCO 3 , Mg (OH) 2 , etc.), which serve as a seed in the process of softening drinking water, accelerating softening. In addition, they act as a “label” of the concentrate, preventing its accidental use instead of water. If you prepare the composition in distilled water, then it has no smell or color. This true solution in domestic conditions, someone can accidentally drink. When preparing the composition using hard water, a cloudy suspension with sediment is obtained, which is its clear difference from drinking water.
Examples of the preparation of the composition are given below.
1. Example 1
16 g of K 2 CO 3 are dissolved in 84.0 g of hard water (total hardness 0.4 mEq / l). A cloudy suspension with a precipitate is obtained.
The inventive composition can be easily used at home to soften drinking water.
1. Before use, it can be diluted, for example, 5 times. Then it becomes possible to apply this composition in accordance with table. one.
The composition must be shaken before use.
In a sealed container, it is well preserved.
The composition was tested by softening the Ufa and Tuymazinskaya drinking water of various hardness (from 6.9 to 17.6 mEq. / L). Water analysis carried out in a number of independent laboratories showed that after water softening, the hardness decreases by a predetermined amount without deterioration of other indicators of drinking water quality. After softening, it all corresponded to GOST for drinking water.
