Abstract
Description
The invention relates to welding production and can be used to directly connect two dissimilar metals to each other by butt welding, for example, titanium and its alloys with high-nickel stainless and heat-resistant steels and alloys, while fusion welding is performed by a non-consumable electrode or an electron beam.
A known method of butt fusion welding of titanium and its alloys with stainless and heat-resistant steels and alloys using an intermediate bimetal insert consisting of a titanium side of a vanadium alloy layer and its steel side of nickel-free mild steel, using a niobium alloy vanadium alloy , in the amount of 3-17 wt. When these metals are combined, the weld is first made of the first intermediate metal of the vanadium alloy with the titanium alloy, then the weld is heat treated according to the heat treatment modes provided for titanium alloys, and then the first intermediate metal is welded to the second intermediate metal with mild stainless steel and then low tempering is performed to relieve stress, according to the modes of heat treatment of steel [1]
There is also a known method of butt fusion welding of titanium and its alloys with stainless and heat-resistant steels and alloys using an intermediate insert of bimetal, consisting of a titanium vanadium alloy on the titanium side and mild steel on the steel side, and a low-carbon non-nickel stainless steel side Vanadium Alloy Steel [2]
The known methods ensure high quality of welded joints and the absence of cracks in them, however, brittle intermetallic phases may be formed in welds due to an excess of vanadium in the weld pool, which in the case of prolonged use under conditions of variable internal pressure and heat transfer leads to a decrease in resource due to reduced ductility of the seam.
The aim of the invention is to eliminate this drawback, increasing crack resistance and corrosion resistance of welds, as well as increasing the resource of welded joints of dissimilar metals as a whole.
The goal is achieved in that in a method for joining dissimilar metals, for example titanium-steel, in which butt-weld fusion welding is performed through an intermediate adapter of a vanadium-chromium alloy on the titanium side and stainless nickel-free steel on the steel side, according to the invention, the first intermediate is welded metal alloy of vanadium with titanium, distributing the heat flux from the heating source uniformly and symmetrically between both welded metals in a ratio of about 50% of the heat flow to each of the metals being welded, after which the vacuum weld of the alloy of vanadium and titanium is annealed at annealing temperature of titanium, and then the first intermediate metal is welded with the second intermediate metal, while the heat flux is distributed unevenly and asymmetrically between the two metals being welded, directing the main part of 60-80% of the total heat flux for the more low-melting metal steel is low-carbon stainless, and the remaining part is 40-20% of the total heat flux for the more refractory metal a vanadium alloy with tungsten, niobium or chromium, while the heating source is shifted by the welding non-consumable electrode to a more fusible metal, by a value of 0.5-0.8 of the electrode diameter or asymmetrically split (divide) the electron beam into 2 parts with a percentage in them each part according to the beam power, respectively, as a percentage of the heat flux, and each part of the beam is directed to the welded edge of each of the joined metals. In the total weld pool of molten metal, the fractions of a more fusible metal (steel) and a more refractory metal (vanadium alloy) correspond to the percentage division of the heat flux, while the highest content of the alloying element of vanadium in the weld pool should not exceed 8-10 wt. After crystallization of such a weld, it has a shape especially favorable under the action of bending loads, while the more fusible molten steel encompasses a more refractory vanadium alloy on both sides from above and below, accounting for 10-20% of the weld section, and a partially melted layer is located inside more refractory metal of the vanadium alloy, comprising from 80 to 60% of the total section of the weld along its thickness, while the vanadium alloy extends into steel, comprising from 20 to 50% of the section along the width of the weld. The limitation of the content of vanadium in the weld (not more than 8-10%) prevents the formation of brittle intermetallic phases in the fusion zone along the weld boundary and, therefore, ensures that there are no germ cracks in this most dangerous zone. In this process of operation, a resource of adapters is achieved corresponding to the resource of the remaining elements making up the pipeline.
The drawing shows a cross section of a weld of a vanadium alloy with stainless steel.
Fusible molten steel 1 covers a more refractory vanadium alloy 2 on both sides above and below, makes up 10-20% of the cross section of weld 3, and a partially melting layer of a more refractory metal of vanadium alloy 4 is located inside, comprising from 80 to 60% of the total section the weld in its thickness, at the same time, the vanadium alloy extends into the steel, making up from 20 to 50% of the cross-section along the width of the weld, after which low tempering is performed according to the modes of heat treatment of steel.
In the proposed method for joining dissimilar metals, for example titanium-steel, in which butt welding of both metals being welded is carried out through an intermediate adapter made of a vanadium alloy with tungsten, niobium or chromium from the side of titanium, stainless non-nickel steel from the side of steel, the first intermediate metal is first welded an alloy of vanadium with titanium, distributing the heat flux from the heating source uniformly and symmetrically between both welded metals in a ratio of about 50% of the heat flux for each and h weldable metals. After that, the vacuum weld of an alloy of vanadium and titanium is annealed at a temperature of annealing of titanium, and then the first intermediate metal is welded with the second intermediate metal, after which low tempering is performed to relieve stresses on the steel. After that, the indicated intermediate insert of three metals of a titanium alloy, a vanadium alloy, and nickel-free stainless steel is joined by fusion welding with the base metals: in any composition, a titanium alloy, on the one hand, and high-nickel stainless steel, on the other hand.
The temperature flux is distributed between both welded metals, unevenly and asymmetrically directing the main part of 60-80% of the total heat flux to the lighter metal, the low-carbon stainless steel, and the remaining part of 40-20% of the total heat flux to the more refractory metal, vanadium alloy with tungsten or chrome. The heating source is shifted by a non-consumable welding electrode to a more fusible metal by a value of 0.5-0.8 of the electrode diameter or the electron beam is divided in 2 parts with their percentage by the power of the beam corresponding to the percentage division of the heat flux, and each part of the beam is directed to the welded edge each of the joined metals, moreover, in the common weld pool of molten metal, the fractions of refractory and more fusible metals correspond to the percentage division of the heat flux. The foregoing is confirmed by the following examples.
Example 1. When processing the process, we tested the displacement of the electrode by a more refractory metal, vanadium alloy, by a value of 0.8 from the diameter of the electrode, while X-ray and metallographic control revealed partial non-fusion along the perimeter of the annular weld to 30% of its entire length, which is unacceptable.
Example 2. The installation of the electrode was tested, with the same welding mode as in example 1, exactly at the center of the joint, no displacement of fusion after welding was found in the weld. However, chemical analysis performed on a microanalyzer showed that a weld section enriched in vanadium is formed along the entire perimeter in the fusion zone, the content of which is up to 13%, which, taking into account possible microliquation along grain boundaries and their enrichment, significantly increases the possibility of brittle intermetallic phases and, accordingly, the formation of germ cracks with a subsequent decrease in the resource of welds. From the point of view of the possibility of the appearance of brittle intermetallic compounds according to state diagrams (ternary system), a critical vanadium content of more than 15 wt. as part of an alloy.
Example 3. For mass production, an offset of the electrode by 0.8 from the electrode of 2.5 mm to the side of the more fusible metal without nickel stainless steel was worked out. With this position of the electrode, there is guaranteed no fusion along the seam, as a more refractory metal, the vanadium alloy is completely washed and partially melted by the molten mass with a more fusible stainless steel both above and below, i.e. on the front side and the reverse side of the weld due to interaction with the vanadium alloy of the weld pool, characteristic sections covering a vanadium alloy with a thickness of 10 to 20% of the weld section are formed. At the same time, a partially melted layer of vanadium alloy with a cross section from 80 to 60% of the entire weld section is placed in the middle part of the weld.
Chemical microspectral analysis of the weld metal showed that in this case the maximum content of vanadium in the microcrack hazardous area does not exceed 10 wt. Such a content of vanadium, even taking into account its possible microliquation along the grain boundaries, is not critical and does not lead to the formation of germ cracks in the alloying zone of the vanadium alloy with stainless nickel-free steel. Thus, the welded joints of the vanadium alloy with nickel-free steel, made according to the technology described in Example 3, are optimal both in the quality of the welds (without fusion) and in the required chemical composition (the absence of germ cracks) and, therefore, have a high operational resource.
The proposed method of joining two dissimilar metals can be carried out by industrial means.
