Description
The invention relates to the field of manufacturing technology of focusing devices for integrated and fiber optics and can be used in the manufacture of devices focusing or collimating optical radiation in fiber optic connectors and integrated optical circuits.
A known method of manufacturing integrated microlenses, based on the diffusion of highly refracting ions in glass, stimulated by an external electric field [1]
According to this method, aluminum disks with a diameter of 0.1 to 0.2 of the diameter of the manufactured microlenses are formed on one of the surfaces of the glass plate, and a continuous layer of aluminum is applied to the opposite side of the plate, which subsequently acts as a cathode. Electrically stimulated diffusion of rubidium ions from a melt of rubidium nitrate is carried out on the plate surface, while the anode is immersed directly in the melt. Then the aluminum disks are removed, and silver ions are introduced into the glass plate from the silver nitrate melt under the influence of an external stimulating field. As a result, microlenses with good sphericity are formed in the glass, and in the spaces between them there are no uncontrolled zones with a high refractive index.
The disadvantages of this method of manufacturing microlenses are the complexity of manufacturing and the use of expensive equipment when performing the operation of vacuum deposition of metal films and photolithography.
е. Closest to the claimed is a method of manufacturing channel integrated optical waveguides, proposed in [2] This method can be applied in the manufacture of microlenses. According to this method, a silver strip of a given width and a thickness of 0.2 to 1.0 μm is created by photolithography on one of the surfaces of the sodium silicate glass plate. Then, metal electrodes are applied to both surfaces, to which an electric field is applied in such a way that a positive potential appears on the silver strip. After heating the glass plate, silver ions from a metal film under the influence of an electric field diffuse into the glass surface, causing an increase in its refractive index. If instead of a silver strip, which is necessary for the manufacture of an integrated optical channel waveguide, a silver film made in the form of a disk with appropriate dimensions can be used, then after conducting electrostimulated diffusion, a region with a higher refractive index and having the shape of a hemisphere, i.e. microlens.
The disadvantages of the described method are the complexity and high cost due to the high consumption of silver.
An object of the invention is to simplify and reduce the cost of the method of manufacturing microlenses.
This goal is achieved in that the electrostimulated diffusion of silver ions into a glass plate is carried out not from a thin silver film, but from a silver needle located perpendicular to the glass plate.
Figure 1 schematically shows a method of manufacturing microlenses; in FIG. 2 attached photo appearance of the obtained microlenses.
1. One of the planes of the glass plate 1 is brought into contact with the molten salt 2, in which the platinum electrode 3, which acts as a cathode, is immersed. The anode and source of silver ions is a silver needle 4, the tip of which is located on the opposite plane of the glass plate 1.
After applying an external stimulating electric field, silver ions diffuse from the tip of the silver needle into the surface of the glass plate, causing an increase in the refractive index of the glass. The diffusion region, with a high refractive index and having the shape of a hemisphere, is actually a microlens.
A sodium silicate glass plate with a sodium oxide content of 14%, size 30x10x10.6 (mm), is brought into contact with the K 2 Cr 2 O 7 melt in one plane, in which the platinum cathode is located. The anode was made in the form of a needle with a diameter of 1 mm of pure silver Cp 99.99 and was located on the opposite plane of the glass plate. An external stimulating voltage of 12 V was applied between the anode and cathode. Electrostimulated diffusion of silver ions from a needle into a glass plate was carried out at a temperature of 500 ° C for 90 minutes. In this case, a hemispherical microlens with a diameter of 1.6 mm, a focal length of 7.1 mm, and a focal spot diameter of 5.5 μm was formed in the glass.
The inventive method of manufacturing microlenses has the following advantages compared to the prototype:
1. The absence of technological operations such as vacuum deposition and photolithography, requiring expensive equipment and leading to undesirable losses of silver, makes the proposed method simple and cheap.
2. The use of a silver needle as a source of ions instead of a thin film allows diffusion to be carried out for an arbitrarily long time, i.e. to form large diameter microlenses.
