Claims (13)

a) a granular core material containing at least one water-soluble fertilizer compound, said granular core material comprising granules with a substantially smooth outer surface and at least 95% of such granules are substantially spherical and

c) wherein the fertilizer composition is structured to provide a cumulative release of the fertilizer compound in an amount of less than 10% of the total weight of the fertilizer compound in the granular core material, 30 days after exposure of the fertilizer composition to moisture; and
d) a coating consisting of a single layer of a uniform, substantially continuous polymer film is present in at least 90% of the granules in the granular core material.

b) coating the granular core material with a single layer of substantially water-insoluble coating material to form a uniform, substantially continuous polymer film on the granular core material, wherein at least 90% of the granules are coated with such a film, thereby forming a fertilizer composition , which releases less than 10% of the total weight of the fertilizer substance contained in the granular core material of the fertilizer composition, 30 days after exposure to moisture.
