Abstract
Keratin based fibres especially wool are treated as follows: The material is soaked and chlorinated. Residual chlorine is removed by reduction. This is followed by treatment with a reactive polyamide resin, softening, drying, preshrinking at 80-100 deg. C for 30 secs. This treatment reduces shrinking and ensures dimensional stability and improves feel. Chlorination takes place at pH 1-6 for 140 mins. at 5-30 deg. C. Resin treatment occurs at 40-50 deg. C at pH 7.2-7.8 for 20-40 min. 2.5% resin is applied based on fibre wt.
