Abstract

The invention relates to a stable softening composition used in the fabric automatic washing process, comprising (i) 3 to 40% by weight of a fabric softener combination comprising : (A) an inorganic or an organic acid salt of a softening compound; (B) a biodegradable fatty acid ester, as a quaternary ammonium salt, at least 20% of a substituent hydrocarbonate groups present in components A and B being unsaturated ; (ii) a fatty ester of mono- or polyhydric alcohols, present in the composition in a weight ratio of components i : ii, ranging between 40 :1 to 5:1 ; (iii) an aqueous carrier including an antigelling amount of electrolyte. The process for softening fabrics consists in treating the fabrics in the rinse cycle of an automatic laundry machine with a liquor containing an efficient amount of softening composition, with or without perfume, the perfume, in an amount of 0.2 to 3%, being added before using.
