Abstract
Invenţia se referă la un soi de pepene verde (Citrullus vulgaris Schrad) tetraploid, cu denumirea de Ioana, obţinut prin colchicinizare, având ca material biologic soiul diploid Antoanela, recomandat a fi cultivat în Câmpia Română, pentru consum în stare proaspătă. Prezintă în celulele somatice 44 cromozomi şi este folosit ca genitor matern pentru producerea hibrizilor triploizi. Plantele au tulpina lungă de 1,97 plus sau minus 0,3 m, numărul ramurilor pe plantă este 7,82 plus sau minus 0,14, iar numărul frunzelor pe plantă este 235,14 plus sau minus 1,6. Frunza este lungă de 13,51 cm şi lată de 13,62 cm. Fructul este verde-gălbui, cu nervuri longitudinale verzi, neuniforme, care se ramifică pe tot fondul. Greutatea medie a unui fruct este de 6,37 kg. Pulpa are culoare roşu-aprins, iar grosimea medie a cojii este de 0,8 cm. Seminţele au lungimea de 8,62 mm, lăţimea de 6,25 mm şi grosimea de 2,3 mm. Greutatea a 1000 de seminţe este de 72 g. Este un soi timpuriu, cu perioada de vegetaţie de 68 zile. Este rezistent la boli, dăunători şi factorii nefavorabili de mediu. Fructele conţin 9,42% zahăr. Realizează 58.800 kg/ha fructe.
