Abstract

The process comprises solid-phase reaction of cobalt oxide with porous gamma-alumina. With the oxide produced by precipitation or evaporation, and drying the thermal decomposition of a soln. of cobalt nitrate contg. T-alumina in suspension, the spinel-structure product has the chemical compsn. CO.Al2O3. The heat treatment at 850-950 and 1000-1100 degrees C intensifies ion diffusion, without risk of sintering, which stabilises the chemical structure.
