Abstract

2-Cyano-2-alkoxy-imino-acetamide of formula (I) (where alk is methyl, ethyl gp. etc.) is prepd. by dissolving 2-cyano-2-hydroxy-imino-acetamide in an equimolar 9% aq. NaOH (KOH). The initial pH of the soln. is set at 8-10. The soln. is alkylated with di:alkyl-sulphate at pH 9-7 with simultaneous addn. of an alkaline aq. soln.. Once pH values stabilised at 7-5 the mixt. is cooled to 2-3 deg.C. and filtered (yield 90%).
