Abstract
Diesters of 2,2'-(1,3-phenylene-bis-(oxy))-bis-acetic-acid are of general formula (I) (where R = 4-8C or 10C n-aliphatic gp. or 4-6C iso-aliphatic gp. and 2-6C (2 ethyl-hexyl)gp.) are prepd. by esterification of 2,2-(1,3-phenylene- bis-(oxy))bis-acetic acid with corresp. aliphatic alcohols. Reaction is carried out in an azeotropic system with 20-50% excess alcohol (4-8C or 10C normal- or 4-6C iso-, or 2-6C, (2 ethyl-hexyl-alcohol in the presence of a catalyst acid, and in the presence of thionyl-chloride. Esterification is carried out in a solvent as carbon-tetra:chloride or toluene at 60-80 deg.C for 10-12 hrs. Sodium-carbonate soln. is used for pptn.
