Inventia se refera la un procedeu de reglare a maselor moleculare ale polifenilenoxidului obtinut prin reactia de polimerizare oxidativa în solutie a 2,6-xilenolului, în mediu de hidrocarburi aromatice, prin aditionarea controlata a unor bisfenoli, agenti de frânare a cresterii maselor moleculare.
