Abstract

Prodn. of potato propagation material free from viruses and viroids comprises (a) isolating germinated cells of potato shoot apex tissue; (b) cultivating the cells in vitro in a nutritive agent, when they are multiplied; (c) rooting the resulting shoots in nutritive agent or inducing tuber formation on the shoots; (d) transplating the plants, rooted in vitro, into a greenhouse and raising them to become parent plants or, on the plants rooted in vitro, inducing tuber formation and if required cultivating mini tuber mother plants to give propagation material, i.e. seedlings os small tubers. The formation of seedlings and respective tubers is directed by influencing the patatin synthesis of the parent plants.
