Abstract

The cellular mattress consists of at least one layer (1,2) of a supple material with transverse cells (3,4), at least some of which contain inflatable chambers (5) connected to pressure regulator (6). The cells can be in two types - one type, preferably polygonal in cross section, made to hold the cylindrical chambers, and the other not. The pressure regulator is equipped with a valve which allows air to escape slowly from the inflatable chambers when a load is applied to them, and re-inflate rapidly when the load is removed. The mattress, depending on area of use, can incorporate a number of foam layers of different densities, and can be adjusted to give the required degree of firmness.
