Abstract
Vaccines against diseases caused by pathogens in humans and other warm-blooded animals contain a form of the pathogen capable of living on protein from a non-warm-blooded animal (esp. fish protein). Specifically the pathogens are Staphylococci, esp. S. aureus. The parent strain is grown on a medium contg. fish protein, opt. while exposing the culture to mutagenic action, esp. UV radiation. Surviving colonies are isolated and the process is repeated several times. The final surviving cells are used directly for prodn. of live vaccines.
