Abstract

Pipe is lined with a tubular lining having an inner felt layer saturated with curable synthetic resin, which contacts the pipe walls, and an outer impermeable layer. Lining is accomplished by turning the end of the tube back on itself, anchoring it to the end of the pipe, and everting the tube into and along the pipe. The everted portion of the tube is maintained in contact with the pipe walls by introducing pressurised air whilst eversion is assited by applying force to a pull cord or tape which is attached to the remote end of the tubular lining, emerges from the everting face, and extends through the pipe. The eversion process is enhanced by applying a lubricating soap or oil inside the lining tube so that the inward moving portion slips over the already everted portion. The resin is cured by filling the pipe with hot air when lining has been completed. The method can be used to line pipelines, passageways, and sewers. The method uses pressurised air to maintain the everted lining in contact with the walls and is therefore pref. where large quantities of water are not available. The air can be heated when lining has been completed in order to cure the resin of the lining.
