Abstract
2-Hydroxyalkyl-4,5-diaryloxazole derivs. and analogues of formula (I) are new. R1 and R2 are carbocyclic aryl or heteroaryl; Y is hydrocarbylene; A is O, S, SO or SO2; and R3 is opt. substd. hydrocarbyl, or when A is O or S, it is H. Cpds. (I) are anti-inflammatory and antiphlogistic agents esp, suitable for topical treatment of skin invitations, dermatitis, exanthems and burns and inflammation of the mucosa; they are also sun-screening agents. Applied typically 2-3 times daily in prepns. at 1-10%. (Provisional Basic previously advised in Week J51).
