Abstract

Compsn. (I) comprises at least one organometallic complex (II) contg. Cu or Cu combined with one or more of Na, K, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, V, Mo, Fe, Co, Zn, B, Pb, Sb, Ti, Mn and Zr. (II) is derived from: (i) at least one organic cpd. contg. a hydrocarbon linkage and at least two functional gps. from X, XR, NR2, NO2, NR, NXR, NR'XR, NCR2, CN, N=NR, -(R)N-(R)'N)(R)a, -(R)P(X)XR, or -(XR)P(X)XR (where X = O or S; R = H or hydrocarbyl; R' = hydrocarbylene or hydrocarbylidene; and a = 0-10); and (ii) at least one metal reactant as mentioned being capable of forming a complex with (i); providing that: (a) (i) is not a mono- or di-carboxylic acid unless the acid contains one or more of the above functional gps. other than the =O or -OH of the -COOH gps.; (b) (i) is not an aromatic Mannich derived from an OH- and/or thiol-contg. cpds., an aldehyde or ketone and an OH- and/or thiol-contg. amine; (c) (i) is not a high temp. aromatic Mannich prepd. from a phenol, aldehyde and polyamine; (d) (i) is not a salicylaldehyde, hydroxyaromatic Schiff base, malonaldehyde-di-nitroanil, a betadiketone; (e) (i) is not a prod. made by reacting hydrocarbon-substd. succinic acid cpd. contg. 50 aliphatic hydrocarbons; (f) the organometallic complex is not copper- (di)thiophosphate, -dithiocarbamate, -sulphonate, -phenate or acetal acetonate. Also claimed are: (A) a concentrate contg. normally liquid organic diluent and 1-90 wt. % (I); (B) a diesel fuel contg. a major amt. of diesel fuel and a minor amt. of (I); and (c) a method of operating a diesel engine equipped with an exhaust system particulate trap to reduce build-up of exhaust particles in the trap using a diesel fuel contg. (I).
