Abstract

The present invention relates to the use of 8-substituted xanthines of formula I: <IMAGE> in which R1 and R2 each independently of the other represent alkyl or -(CH2)m-A; m represents zero or a whole number 1, 2 or 3; A represents a cyclic hydrocarbon radical, substituted or unsubstituted; R3 represents a halogen atom, a nitro group or an -NR4R5 group; R4 and R5 each independently of the other represent hydrogen, alkyl or alkylcarbonyl; or R4 and R5 together with the nitrogen to which they are bound form an optionally substituted heterocyclic group; and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof in the preparation of a medication for inhibition of the production of tumour necrosis factor (TNF).
