There are sterile transparent dressings called TEGADERM, made of a thin waterproof membrane, covered with a hyperallergic waterproof adhesive. They have an oval shape, and the adhesive surface is protected by a siliconized paper cover, which has rectangular handles along its longer diameter. An application frame is glued to the other surface of the dressing, also made of siliconized paper and with handles along the longer diameter. The application frame has a small incision in the form of a tongue and enables easy and aseptic application of the dressing. Various varieties of the described dressing are also known, each with an application frame system and with a shape adapted to specific purposes. The transparent dressing has a rectangular base layer according to the utility pattern made of a very thin PU polyurethane film, covered with medical glue on one side, and on the other side a carrying layer made of a stiffer PE polyethylene film. The adhesive surface of the base layer is protected with two covers made of siliconized paper; each of them covers over half of the fields of dressing. The backsheet has a tab on the medial side of the dressing, and the top sheet extends beyond the tab of the bottom sheet. An applicator in the form of a strip with a width of at least 15 mm is glued to the outer layer of the dressing, along one of the sides and keeping the edge margin of the dressing, facilitating the separation of the layer from the base layer after application of the dressing. For this purpose, the glueless edge margin has a width of not less than 5 mm. The transparent dressing according to the utility pattern is a modern self-adhesive dressing material used to protect the wound against secondary infection and mechanical irritation. Thanks to the use of a thin PU polyurethane film, it is very flexible - it perfectly adapts to the shape of the body; it is transparent, so it provides constant control of the condition of the wound and its surroundings. It is an effective barrier for bacteria, but it allows the skin to breathe freely in the wound area under the dressing. Thanks to the use of a hypoallergenic glue, it is gentle even on sensitive skin; it adheres very well to the body, but at the same time it is easily removable without damaging the epidermis. The use of a polyethylene PE film that is stiffer than the base layer as a carrying layer makes it easy to apply. Made in any dimensions, it offers a wide range of applications, for example, to protect pressure ulcers and burns, also after skin grafting. It is waterproof, so it allows even the patient to bathe with the dressing applied.
