Description
Acids of this group, as kernic, apocrenic and ulmic, form with lime and iron insoluble salts. The calcium-potassium salts of humic acids are also insoluble. As a result, peat is excellent as an excellent filter material for the release of water, for example charcoal, or other liquids from soluble calcium, iron and potassium compounds. In particular, the use of the peat-based fluid purification method in the sugar industry will be reported. In addition to the indicated effect, peat, as a fibrous material and containing organic colloids, already perfectly separates the fines from water or other liquids, and also detaches and discolor them. Peat is prepared for filtration purposes in such a way that the peat the raw product is boiled in water, or in special vessels, is subjected to the action of high or low pressure steam, then the product is extruded to remove the tear from it and leached out in a stream of water. In the treatment of certain liquids, it is advisable to treat the peat with antiseptic agents, such as, for example, potassium permanganate, formalin, chlorine, ozone, hydrogen peroxide or hydrogen peroxide before leaching the water. t. p.
