Abstract
The subject of the application is a method of obtaining fatty acid esters, which consists in the fact that the process is carried out in three stages. In the first stage, at a temperature of 100 - 140 ° C, the C8-C24 fatty acid and a low molecular weight alcohol having two hydroxyl groups are esterified with a continuous inert gas blowing, in the presence of a mineral acid or acidic substances as a catalyst and an azeotroping solvent, up to reaching the content of dihydric alcohol monoesters at the level of 20-70%, the obtained post-reaction mixture is separated into the upper - ester and lower - phases containing mainly unreacted alcohol, the upper phase is sent to the second stage of the synthesis, and the unreacted alcohol is directed to regeneration. In the second stage, the esters from the first stage of the synthesis are esterified with dicarboxylic acid or its anhydride with continuous blowing of inert gas, in the presence of a mineral acid or acidic substances as a catalyst and an azeotroping solvent, heating the whole from room temperature to 140-240 ° C such that the end temperature is reached in not less than 0.5 hours, carrying out the esterification until the acid number of the reaction mixture is below 10 mg KOH / g. In the third stage, the reaction mixture is cooled to 50-90 ° C, low-molecular organic acid is introduced and a hydrogen peroxide solution is added dropwise over 0.5-1.5 hours, the epoxidation reaction is carried out for 0.5-6 hours, then the reaction mixture is separated into two phases: the upper - ester and lower - aqueous phases, the upper phase is washed with an aqueous solution of sodium or potassium carbonate or phosphate and then with water.
