Wytwarzanie pirofosforanów odbywa się jednoetapową metodą termicznego rozkładu prekursorów. Otrzymane tą metodą pirofosforany znajdują zastosowanie jako luminofory w oświetleniach po dodatkowej aktywacji jonami lantanowców.
