Jesli tuleja 10 nia srednice okolo 14 cm, to tarcza re- gyjujaca 12 moze miec srednice 25,4 cm, tarcza zas polerujaca 13 — srednice 50,8 cm. Tarcze 12 i 13 moga sie skladac z drob¬ nych ziarenek szlifujacych, zwiazanych z twardym zeszklonym materialem.Sposób wedlug wynalazku moze byc takze zastosowany do obróbki pustych przedmiotów cylindrycznych, jak np. wy¬ miennych tylej do cylindrów silników spa¬ linowych. PLThe present invention relates to a method of making valves for sleeve internal combustion engines and to the production of similar cylindrical articles subjected to surface hardening, for example nitriding, which deforms the objects slightly so that they are no longer round cylindrical. For example, a 14 cm diameter sleeve that has undergone surface hardening by nitriding may deform by more than 0.25 mm. According to the present invention, a method of restoring the round shape of sleeves or the like, deformed during the treatment described above, consists in machining them on a centerless grinder in which the polishing disc removes less material than the amount that would have to be removed in order to restore the sleeve to its roundness, using only grinding. by further straightening, the roundness of the sleeve is restored even though very little material is removed from it, since excess material flows down or moves under the hardened coating to deformed areas when the polishing wheel is processed. For example, in order to correct a deformation of 0.25 mm during the straightening operation, only 0.006 to 0.012 mm is removed. Thus, the straightening process advantageously causes not only the straightening of the outer surface of the cylindrical object to be straightened, but also the roundness of the inner surface is restored. This process is therefore not a normal grinding process. If the sleeve were to be ground in the usual manner to such an extent as to remove the deformation, it would have to be ground both on the outside and on the inside in order to maintain an even wall thickness; such grinding would remove a very thin layer of the nitrided hardened material in some places. By using the method of the invention the nitrided layer is not damaged to any greater extent. The treatment of the invention differs from the rolling process in that the polishing disc rotates at a high speed, greater than the speed of rotation of the control disc. The drawing shows an example of the method according to the invention. The sleeve 10 can be supported by a V-shaped support 11, as is usual for a keyless grinder. The regulating disc 12 rests on the bushing and regulates the speed of its rotation. The straightening is carried out first by a polishing disk 13 of larger diameter, hereinafter referred to as the working disk. If the diameter of the sleeve 10 is approximately 14 cm, the diameter of the adjustment plate 12 may be 25.4 cm, and the polishing plate 13 may have a diameter of 50.8 cm. The discs and sleeves rotate in a circular pattern in the directions indicated by the arrows. The disc 12 can be rotated at 40 revolutions per minute, and the polishing disc 13 - at 950 to 1,000 revolutions per minute. As the discs and sleeve are rotated in this manner, the sleeve lifts a few to several hundredths of a mile from the left side of the V-bracket, as shown exaggerated in the figure. 13 may consist of fine grinding grains bonded to a hard vitrified material. The method of the invention can also be applied to the treatment of hollow cylindrical objects, such as replaceable rear cylinders of internal combustion engines. PL
