Its head is raised above the upper surface of the tail. The head and tail constitute the working ends of the toothpick, the working surfaces of which constitute the cleaning surfaces. The lower part of the beak and the upper and lower parts of the tail are provided with a series of semicircular projections intended for removing food debris from interdental spaces. The industrial design of the toothpick may include a figurative trademark on the bird's body. Dental toothpicks are manufactured by injection molding from plastics in various colors.
