Znane metody katalitycznego utleniania allilowego przy wykorzystaniu jako katalizatorów reakcji utlenienia allilowego metali, takich jak chrom, miedź, rod, selen, kobalt, ruten, żelazo, mangan, pallad czy bizmut, ujawnione zostały w opisach patentowych: US 6384251, US 6252119, US 8163944, US 4393243, US24593594, CA2074880, WO 02/16391 czy też publikacjach, takich jak Crich, Zou Org. Lett. 2004, 775; Yu, Corey J. Am. Chem. Soc., 2003, 3232, Shing i wsp. Org. Lett. 2006, 3149, Salvador, Silvestre Tetrahedron Lett. 2005, 2581. W publikacjach Reddy i wsp. Res. Chem, Intermed. 2018, 6151 oraz Astle, Khlobystov i wsp. Nano Lett. Najwyższy poziom selektywności dla utlenienia cykloheksenu do cykloheksenonu w takich nanoreaktorach wynosił 56% (acetonitryl, 80°C).Known methods of catalytic allylic oxidation using metals such as chromium, copper, rhodium, selenium, cobalt, ruthenium, iron, manganese, palladium or bismuth as catalysts for the allylic oxidation reaction are disclosed in the patent descriptions: US 6384251, US 6252119, US 8163944 , US 4393243, US24593594, CA2074880, WO 02/16391 or publications such as Crich, Zou Org. Lett. 2004, 775; Yu, Corey J. Am. Chem. Soc., 2003, 3232, Shing et al. Org. Lett. 2006, 3149, Salvador, Silvestre Tetrahedron Lett. 2005, 2581. Allylic oxidation reactions catalyzed by the mentioned metals, due to the toxicity of the transition metals used and the problematic separation of the product from trace impurities originating from the catalyst, have limited application, especially in the food and pharmaceutical industries . In Reddy et al. Res. Chem, Intermed. 2018, 6151 and Astle, Khlobystov et al. Nano Lett. 2020, 1161, information appeared on the oxidation reaction of allyl cyclohexene to cyclohexenone using a cerium catalyst in a heterogeneous form. The use of the CeO2-Sm2O3/SO2 nanocatalyst allows to achieve high reaction selectivity of 89%, however, the reaction takes place at a high temperature of 70°C and requires the use of acetonitrile as a solvent. In the case presented by Astle, Khlobystov, the use of cerium oxide nanoparticles enclosed inside hollow carbon nanostructures results in the process's utility being plagued by problems of poor efficiency and selectivity. The highest selectivity level for the oxidation of cyclohexene to cyclohexenone in such nanoreactors was 56% (acetonitrile, 80°C).
Z kolei, z publikacji Ewans i wsp. Chem. Commun. In turn, from the publication of Ewans et al. Chem. Commun. 2019, 12368, allylic oxidation of prochiral 4,4-disubstituted cyclopentenes to γ-quaternary α,β-unsaturated cyclopentenones is known, but this reaction takes place in acetonitrile at 40°C, using copper(I) iodide as a catalyst and anhydrous hydroperoxide tert-butyl (TBHP) as an oxidant.
In the known state of the art, there is no information on the use of homogeneous cerium(IV) compounds as a catalyst in allylic oxidation reactions of unsaturated cycloalkanes.
Taking into account the high synthetic value of γ-quaternary α,β-unsaturated cyclopentenones, it was advisable to develop a new effective method for the synthesis of this class of compounds from simple symmetric cyclopentenes, with high efficiency and selectivity, low toxicity of reagents, solvents and catalysts, and the possibility of carrying out the reaction in mild conditions without the need for an inert gas atmosphere or anhydrous conditions.

During the above-described purification of the product by column chromatography, the only additional compound released was the unreacted substrate and the absence of other by-products, which proves the high selectivity of the allyl oxidation procedure developed according to the invention.
P r z y k ł a d 5. Sposób otrzymywania 4-heptadekanylo-4-(trimetylosililoksy)cyclopent-2-en-1-onu według wynalazku.Example 5. Method for preparing 4-heptadecanyl-4-(trimethylsilyloxy)cyclopent-2-en-1-one according to the invention.
In a vial equipped with a magnetic stirrer, 0.2 g of 1-heptadecanyl-1-trimethylsilyloxycyclopent-3-ene, which was 0.53 mmol, was placed and dissolved in a mixture of solvents consisting of 2.34 mL of distilled water and 0.29 mL of acetonitrile to the substrate concentration value of 0.2 M. Then 0.55 mL of 70% TBHP aqueous solution was added, which constituted 8 equiv. relative to the substrate (0.0042 mol) and 29 mg of CAN, which was 0.1 equiv. in relation to the substrate as a catalyst according to the invention. The vial was tightly closed with a stopper and stirred for 48 hours at 25°C. After this time, the solvent was evaporated on a vacuum evaporator, then 20 mL of saturated Na2CO3 solution was added and extracted three times with 50 mL of CH2O2. The organic fraction was dried over anhydrous MgSO4, filtered and evaporated. The reaction products were purified by column chromatography on silica gel. For this purpose, the reaction mixture was placed on a chromatographic column filled with silica gel. The column was developed with a 100:5 hexane:ethyl acetate solution. After evaporating the solvent, 0.14 g (0.36 mmol) of 4-heptadecanyl-4-(trimethylsilyloxy)cyclopent-2-en-1-one according to the invention was obtained as colorless oil, with a yield of 67.5%. Despite a slightly lower reaction efficiency compared to the result presented in the article by Ewans et al. Chem. Commun. 2019, 12368, its advantages are milder conditions, lack of toxicity of reagents, aqueous reaction TBHP, water as a solvent and milder reaction conditions.
