Description
The subject of the invention is a method for obtaining a polypropylene modifier and a method for obtaining a modified polypropylene.
Uzyskaną w ten sposób przedmieszkę zawierającą 32% wagowych montmorylonitu poddano procesowi wytłaczania używając wytłaczarki dwuślimakowej w temperaturze 220°C.One of the known and described methods of obtaining polypropylene nanocomposites with montmorillonite minerals is the method of extruding polypropylene grafted with maleic anhydride with modified montmorillonite, which was previously mixed with polyvinylpyrrolidone, resulting in intercalation consisting in incorporation of the substance between the layers in the parent compound. the geometry of the initial structure is only slightly modified, usually consisting in separating the layers. The thus obtained premix containing 32% by weight of montmorillonite was subjected to an extrusion process using a twin screw extruder at a temperature of 220 ° C.
The aim of the invention was to obtain a modified polypropylene with improved mechanical properties, in particular with increased impact strength and tear and bending strength.
Unexpectedly, the object has been achieved by using halloysite modifier previously subjected to a special modification.
Hydrofilowy charakter haloizytu stwarza istotne utrudnienia stosowania go do napełniania hydrofobowego polipropylenu. Powoduje to konieczność modyfikowania haloizytu w celu poprawy wzajemnej mieszalności tych dwóch składników. Dzięki specyficznej budowie krystalicznej, łatwo go jednak zmodyfikować i wprowadzić do poliolefin w postaci aktywnego napełniacza.Halloysite is a mineral of volcanic origin with the formula Al2Si2O5 (OH) 4, forming very small crystals with a tubular cross-section visible under high magnification. The hydrophilic nature of halloysite makes it difficult to use it for filling hydrophobic polypropylene. This makes it necessary to modify halloysite in order to improve the miscibility of the two components. Due to the specific crystal structure, it is easy to modify and incorporate into polyolefins in the form of an active filler.
The method of obtaining the modifier for polypropylene according to the invention consists in that a mixture of halloysite, pre-modified by roasting or sonication, and glycidyl methacrylate or balsamic rosin or rosin ester, in the weight ratio of halloysite to glycidyl methacrylate or balsam rosin or its ester, respectively 2-5 : 1, is reacted at a temperature of 40 to 80 ° C in an organic solvent with the addition of a peroxide initiator, then the solvent is removed and the dried, modified halloysite is ground to a powder.
Korzystnie haloizyt przed reakcją z metakrylanem glicydylu, kalafonią balsamiczną lub estrem kalafonii poddaje się dwustopniowemu prażeniu w temperaturze do 450°C.Preferably, the halloysite is subjected to a two-stage calcination at temperatures up to 450 ° C prior to the reaction with glycidyl methacrylate, balsamic rosin or rosin ester.
Preferably, the halloysite is sonicated at 250 to 350 kHz for 2-3 hours prior to reaction with glycidyl methacrylate, balsamic rosin or rosin ester.
Preferably, a hydrogenated ester of rosin and pentaerythritol is used as the rosin ester.
Preferably benzoyl peroxide is used as the peroxide initiator.
Jako rozpuszczalnik organiczny korzystnie stosuje się aceton.Acetone is preferably used as the organic solvent.
The subject of the invention is also a method of producing composites based on a polypropylene matrix.
Sposób otrzymywania modyfikowanego polipropylenu, według wynalazku polega na tym, że polipropylen i modyfikator, otrzymany sposobem opisanym wyżej, użyty w ilości od 1 do 10% wagowych w stosunku do kompozycji, miesza się w stopie, w zakresie temperatur od 180 do 220°C.The method of obtaining a modified polypropylene according to the invention consists in that the polypropylene and the modifier obtained by the method described above, used in an amount of 1 to 10% by weight in relation to the composition, are melt mixed in the temperature range from 180 to 220 ° C.
Również długość fali charakterystycznaThe structure of the modified polypropylene was studied using the following methods: infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). On the FTIR spectra obtained according to the invention of the polypropylene nanocomposites, bands in the range of 1680 cm -1 - 1694 cm -1 , depending on the type of modifier used, characteristic for the carbonyl group present in balsam rosin, were recorded. Moreover, the band with a wavelength of 3060 cm -1 was lost, which is characteristic of the unsaturated bond in balsam rosin. Also characteristic wavelength
Struktura jest jednorodna, a pod bardzo dużym powiększeniem widoczne są kryształy o rurkowym przekroju osadzone w matrycy polipropylenowej.-1 -1 for the acrylic group in glycidyl methacrylate shifted from 1712 cm -1 to 1721 cm -1 . Changing the long-1 -1 a wavelength band characteristic of the methyl groups in the polypropylene of 973 cm -1 to 975 cm -1 -1 -1 and 998 cm -1 to 996 cm -1 indicate occurring modification. Changes in the -1 -1 wavelength characteristic for the groups occurring in the haloizite were also observed, from 468 cm -1 to 471 cm -1 -1 -1 for -Si-O- and 1035 cm -1 to 1042 cm -1 for -Si-, respectively O-Si-. Micrographs of the polypropylene / modifier composition show a very good interaction between the phases present in the system, demonstrating a good dispersion of the filler in the polymer matrix. The structure is homogeneous, and under very high magnification, you can see crystals with a tubular cross-section embedded in a polypropylene matrix.

Na przykład:It was found that filling polypropylene with halloysite modified with rosin or its esters or glycidyl methacrylate resulted in a product with much better mechanical properties than unmodified polypropylene. E.g:
