Description

PLEasy and quick measurement of the moisture content (percentage of water content) of various bodies, e.g. wheat, sugar, coal, flour, tobacco, is necessary not only for many industries but also in trade, since the price of many raw materials depends on their moisture content. . The water content of a given substance influences the value of its diolectric constant, the measurement of which is very easy. As is known, the dielectric constant of water is very large (about 81) compared to the dielectric constants of other substances, so that even a small percentage of water causes a relatively large increase in the dielectric solid. Measurement of the dielectric constant of a substance is effective by measuring the capacity of a condenser, filled with a certain amount of the substance. The condenser is usually in the shape of a metal box with a metal plate inside which is insulated from the outer walls and serves as one lining, while the walls of the box form the other. The capacity of such a capacitor is proportional to the dielectric constant of the substance between its facings. An example of a device for measuring humidity is shown in the figure. The device consists of an alternating current generator with a cathode lamp Lv. The generator frequency depends on the capacitance of the tested capacitor K, which together with the coil C inside the apparatus constitutes the oscillating circuit of the generator. Placing the capacitor with the test substance in the generator circuit has the advantage over other systems that only one frequency is maintained, which corresponds to the capacitance of the capacitor and is relatively independent of its loss resistance. The second circuit, loosely connected to it, is used to measure this frequency. the preceding one and connected to a second cathode ray tube L2 which serves as a detector-tuning indicator with a milliammeter Af in the anode circuit. The use of such a wavemeter system makes it possible to accurately read the wave (or frequency) of the generator circuit, because the circuit of the wavemeter F has minimal attenuation, so a sharp resonance curve, and then, due to the fact that the grid of the detector tube gives high voltage negative V, suitably regulated, on the milliamperemeter M. only the resonance peak is obtained. The measurement of the humidity by the device, according to the invention, is very simple and consists in: filling the capacitor with a certain amount of the test substance; plugging it into the device and adjusting the trimming knob on the device to obtain the greatest deflection of a milliammeter; reading, from the gauge curve of the device, the percentage of water in the test substance for the found scale by adjusting the wavemeter. During the measurement, the test substance is neither damaged nor physically changed. PL
