Description
The subject of the invention is a method of purifying wastewater from the production of cellulose by the sulphite method by sedimentation with the use of organic polyelectrolyte. Effective treatment of sewage from sulphite-based cellulose production is necessary for environmental protection and health protection (sulfo- and chlorolignins contained in this sewage are carcinogenic compounds).
Substancje rozpuszczone to: chemikalia wprowadzane do roztworu w procesie roztwarzania drewna i bielenia celulozy, hemicelulozy lignina. Zasadniczą częścią rozpuszczonych substancji organicznych są pochodne ligniny, kwasy ligninosulfonowe, chloroligniny itp. Pozostałe ilości substancji organicznych to: drożdże, produkty hemicelulozy do cukrów prostych włącznie.Wastewater from cellulose extraction using the sulphite method contains a large load of pollutants. The amount of sewage is over several dozen thousand. m3 / day, the reaction ranges from pH 1.3 to pH -10. The wastewater is foaming, cloudy, dark with an unpleasant, bland smell. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) amounts to tens of thousands of kg / day. The pollutants in the sewage are in the form of both suspended solids and dissolved. The suspension consists mainly of cellulose fibers in the amount of several thousand kg / day. Dissolved substances are: chemicals put into solution in the process of pulping wood and bleaching cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin. The main part of dissolved organic substances are lignin derivatives, lignosulfonic acids, chlorolignins, etc. The remaining amounts of organic substances are: yeast, hemicellulose products, including simple sugars.
The methods of treating this type of wastewater used so far consist in mechanical removal of solid impurities on trusses and sedimentation of large cellulose fibers, coagulation of suspensions with iron or aluminum salts, oxidation with oxygen in the amount of several dozen tons per day. The efficiency of the purification process is low. COD production is around 15%. Fine cellulose fibers do not degrade biologically, they remain in the active sludge of the sewage treatment plant and, together with lignin compounds, flow to reservoirs, silting them, polluting the soil, poisoning drinking water in rural wells, destroying the biological life of rivers.
Polish patent specification No. 147 969 describes a method of wastewater treatment by selective separation of cellulose first, and then lignin compounds with the use of a polyacrylamine polymer. This method is suitable for the treatment of cellulose and paper wastewater, especially in the production of cellulose by the sulphate method. However, in the case of sewage containing sulphites and hemicellulose breakdown products (yeast, simple sugars) as well as lignosulphonic acids, chloroligninsulphonic acids, and chlorolignin due to the use of polyacrylamine polymer, the flocculation process of cellulose and lignin compounds does not take place.
W tym celu ścieki, po usunięciu zanieczyszczeń mechanicznych alkalizuje się do odczynu powyżej pH - 3, następnie dodaje ciągleIt has surprisingly been found that it is possible to purify the effluent from sulphite cellulose production by using a polyacrylamide polymer according to the process of the invention. For this purpose, the sewage, after removing the mechanical impurities, is made alkaline to a pH above - 3 and then continuously added
Vigorous agitation (200-300 rpm) is applied for about 2 minutes, followed by 45-60 rpm for 5-15 minutes and the mixture is allowed to sediment for 15-60 minutes. Clear, colorless and odorless liquid after decantation is directed to water receptacles, and cellulose fibers, dissolved lignin compounds (sulfo- and chlorolignins) and other organic compounds (hemicellulose, yeast, sugars) - bound on the surface of polymers by hydrogen bridges and electrostatic forces in the form of flocculates combined into large agglomerates containing about 30% water - recycled to the production of paper.
For the alkalisation of the waste water, it is preferable to use milk of lime or soda lye. This results in a rapid growth of floccoli and better sedimentation. In the case of alkaline waste water, it is not necessary to add alkali.
The advantage of the method according to the invention is that the wastewater is treated to such an extent that it can be used directly for technological purposes, and the cellulose recovered from the wastewater can be recycled to the production of paper. The COD reduction is above 50%. The use of this method will also have a huge impact on environmental protection.
Przykład I. Do ścieków z celulozowni siarczynowej o barwie ciemnej, nieprzyjemnym mdłym zapachu, o dużym zmętnieniu, ph - 1,9; ChZT - 406,7 mg/dcm3, zawierających 0,36% celulozy, 0,27% związków ligninowych, 0,03% hemicelulozy, 0,012% cukrów, 0,01% drożdży dodaje się mleka wapiennego. Example I. Dark-colored waste water from a sulphite pulp mill, with an unpleasant, bland smell, high turbidity, ph - 1.9; COD - 406.7 mg / dcm 3 , containing 0.36% cellulose, 0.27% lignin compounds, 0.03% hemicellulose, 0.012% sugars, 0.01% yeast, lime milk is added. After mixing into the waste water having a pH of 3.1, 0.001% liquid polyacrylamide is poured with rapid stirring for two minutes and the mixture is stirred for a further 10 minutes. Initially, fine floccoli is formed which, with slow stirring, expand and combine to form large agglomerates. After 15 minutes of sedimentation, the floccoli will sink to the bottom. After 60 minutes of sedimentation, colorless, odorless and clarified sewage, free from solid impurities and dissolved organic compounds, is directed to the water receptacles. The COD reduction is around 53%. The solid impurities in the form of flocculants are recycled into production.
