The latter operation is both lengthy and requires considerable attention. Therefore, the above method requires the use of tools and relatively large workshops, and separating the blocks from the cores, which constitute the cathode, requires considerable manual labor, which entails a waste of time and considerable expense. The method of work constituting the subject of the present invention does not require the use of any tools, whether in the form of cores, machines, or devices for removing the finished block from the cores. This ensures a significant cost reduction resulting from eliminating the need for these tools on the one hand, and the associated operations on the other. The core, forming the cathode, is replaced by a thin tube of electrolytic copper, produced either by drawing or by rolling a thin sheet and welding, soldering, or generally bonding its edges together. This tube, of the appropriate length and with an internal diameter equal to the diameter of the block being produced, constitutes, as it were, the framework for the core being produced. It is then electrolytically beaded to the correct external diameter. The block obtained in this way can be drawn directly, without any preparatory steps, using conventional methods. To ensure thorough adhesion of the electrolytic deposit to the primary tube, the latter can be subjected to a suitable thorough cleaning, "additional coating," or possibly covered with copper in an alkaline bath. It is advantageous to give the primary tube the same length as the block produced, with the difference in length corresponding to the thickness of the current passage. This tube can be fitted with wooden plugs at the ends for hanging and setting it in motion.
